Hello,
Was "Stranded" Today by a horrible plastic burning smell on the Rangie. Initially thought it was some wiring issue but soon realised when I stopped that the Smoke was coming from under the Bonnet.

Soon saw it eas eminating from the Air Con Compressor.. seems to be coming from the "Inside" of the Compressor rather than the Belt ete.

It spent the rest of the trip home on the back of a truck but I thought I might check and see if there are some simple answers to some questions.

1) Does this Sound like a Complete AC Compressor Failure or something repairable with Bearings ete
2) I've heard something about VS Commodore AC Commodore Compressors been the same. Is this true... is it a reasonable simple fix to use on of these Sanden TRS105 Based Compressors... What has to change on the Compressor to make it work (other than Wiring the Connectors)
3) Anyone have a cheap source of New/Remanufactured Compressors (best I've found thus far is around $220 AUD from the USA Delivered)

sorry, not me either... "Andrew e" is back from NT in a couple of days. Suggest sending him and his dad Erich (aka "bundalene") a pm asking their advice.
Then share your findings with the group please ;)

the later thor motors share the ac compressor with the disco 2 v8, if that helps, they are common as heck ATM, just PM myy old man Bundalene. Earlier Gems p38 ones are not shared with anything else that i know of.

I had a similar symptom on my wifes caprice last summer where the ac compressor just siezed, causing belts to squeak etc. but fortunately the pulley on the front would spin freely when the magnetic clutch was disengaged, so she could just drive around with the ac off until i replaced the compressor.

If yours has siezed, and the pulley on the front wont turn, even with the ignition off, then it is most likely the bearings in the front pulley are stuffed. Can they be replaced? Mabe, but i wouldnt risk it unless i was absolutely stuck somewhere. If its a thor one, Just jump on ebay uk and get one from over there.

I sent my last AC compressor out as an exchange on good will to a customer (the engine was still a runner) and never heard from him again

That was quick... I'd have thought you are still operating at NT pace with a Darwin Stubbie clutched between your paws ;)

That sucks! We've also got another customer with a RRC who couldn't get his fault to clear with the EAS Kicker Lite he bought, so I sent him a "loan" EAS Kicker to try before he bought. He's not returning e-mails or phone calls either.

Sort of sours the whole "I want to help you" thing eh? Mind you, most of our customers are bloody good blokes, and the occassional bloke-ette.

Fourex is ok.. had a "boutique" XXXX a while ago and really enjoyed it.

I'm more of a CCCC man... Corona, Cascade, Crown, Caffreys... in that order :p

Ply me with one or more of those and I am all yours... I'm easy but not cheap :D
