City View Trip & Dare 5-6 February

G'day All,

Will leave it to the DARE TL etc to put up a more formal report....suffice to say was great to meet some new faces and catch up with many old faces. Was a great day.....though should have put some sunscreen on the back of my neck.....ouch.

Still didn't get to test out the winch.....put was good to put Smokey through her paces and show off the new goods :cool:.

Short version...met at Macca's...drove to park.....watched another Rangie combust :twisted:......cooked for the throng....had a cuppla coldies......many laughs........a good group of people........offers of assistance from Rangy and Deefer owners as I left :p.

These thing's don't happen without a) participation ( so great to see a good turn out from every one) and b) organisation/ volunteering time for training etc......so good on ya.....Louis ( good to see the green fender out again), Harry, Pete, Rod, Greg and Garry.

Was a good day, bloody hot though and my lackl of tolerance to heat was put to the test especially with no ****ing aircon :mad::mad: (it works, but useless :().

Got to the park around 7:15 or thereabouts, ran into Darren, Greg, Kelvin and Gregs son Nick in the Sierra. The track into Cityview is just a warm up for thing to come, not terribly hard but still could be a bit tricky if you're not careful.

Anyway, we were all keen for a bit of a play, Greg had to hang around to assist harry with the DARE so Darren, Nick, Kelvin and myself went for a bit of a explore down to the creek track. I remember this track being quite a challenge but the recent deluge has made it truggy territory and a bit much for us mere mortals in full bodied rangies (and Suzuki) so we scratched that idea. We retreated back to the top near the campsite when Dave rocked up in Gumboot. off for another explore and did the loop track, not too hard but a bit of a tricky creek exit for some of the less modified (or straight paneled :)) LR's would be the sticking point, not for us in old dunga Rangies (and Suzuki :twisted:)

We had a play in the playground at the bottom of the hill, drove to the top where kelvin decided to have a bit of as crack at the rock step near the big rock (not my favorite obstacle, I have bad memories of that when Cityview was previously opened). Kelvin gave the rangie a slight nudge, but didn't crack it instead busting the yoke on the uni at the transfer case end. This put a dampener on the morning but luckily darren, dave and Kelvin went for a bit of a search up to the owners shed where luckily there was a rangie driveshaft. Got a hold of it, threw it on the Rangie with some aggravation (it wasn't playing the game put lightly) and off Kelvin went without incident for the rest of the day :)

Bit more of a play then Darren decided to take us over to the other side, plenty of dead ends, tracks that went nowhere but still worth a look around. Greg and Gaz in the XJ (disco was not at his disposal according to Gaz :o) caught up with us and we decided to wait a few minutes for them to catch up and continue on that way. The park has plenty of potential at this stage but some new tracks need to be cut out as well as traffic to get the tracks to a driveable standard 9going through long grass not knowing where what is can be interesting). After some u-turns we drove up the ridge track (I think that's what it's called) which lead to a great view of Brisbane and surrounding areas could be seen through the hazy skyline but the breeze was the best part since the heat was unrelenting all day :(

At this stage, we had enough and decided to head back to the campsite and have a couple of beers before heading home.

Apart from the horrid heat it was a good day, would be better to explore in a cooler time of year (can't wait for winter :cool:). Thanks to Darren for leading us astray and everyone else for there company of course.

and a special thank you and well done, to the girls that drove.
it was good to see the ladies tackling the obstacles and learning their vehicles limits.
special thanks also to louis, for taking the manual drivers into the hill start training.
i also apologise for the lack of knowledge of the tracks and the occasional drive into deeper than expected holes.

My wife (The Navigator) was one of the girls who had a drive after I insisted she get behind the wheel. After all, I was the one who got us stuck on the track towing the camper in because it got steeper than I expected and I hadn't locked it up first, so I figured I should retire and let her have a go.

She enjoyed herself. However, she did have a few, "I'm not doing that" moments, but she got thru them all, with some advice (thanks guys). They included the one where she had to turn and go very vertically over the edge while unable to see anything over the bonnet - not easy to do, but she did it. Now she's proud of herself and keen for more.
And, after getting stuck on the diff, she's now converted to the idea of taller tyres, so that's a good thing.

It's all good. Nice to meet everyone.

Pretty impressed with Numbers!

Must say I think CityView has a lot of potential for trips. Its still a bit overgrown at the moment but as it gets more use I think will provide a good site.

A few of us got right to the top of the ridge in the afternoon on Saturday and the view was amazing. We could just see the high rises in Brisbanes CBD.

I'm definetely keen to go back.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing today, must of had rocks in my head. I didn't get heat stroke which is a pleasnt surprise thankfully the drive home was short.

It was a fun day, bloody hot, dusty, good tracks etc, and hot - I think somebody else also mentioned hot????? :(

Was good to get out for a change, saw some great "new" vehicles in the club - it's always nice to look at other cars and see how they do things and accessories etc etc.....

The guys (and girls) drove well and hopefully we'll catch up again out there on the tracks somewhere.

The Navigator has a good case of surburn on the shoulders - shoulda worn a bigger hat. Despite that, she's still talking about how much fun she had driving up and down those hills. :cool:

Cheeky was busy looking after Cheryl, who was busy on the Sunshine Coast helping her Daughter have her second Granddaughter.
So the MongrelBreedJeep was employed as my transport for the weekend.
Thanks for not paying out on the Jeep too much.
