Lucky she wasn’t in Australia, otherwise she would have been arrested for GBH.

Also in New Zealand!! and hey maybe in the UK after they "assess" her actions under equal force rules they seem to apply (handbag versus sledgehammer etc.) as they are so politically correct even more than down under.
I have posted this before, this is how you arrest someone!!!
Imagine the lawyers here having a field day.

Not that it has any parrallel to this incident, I remember dearly one incident of what I consider poetic justice.
While working for a clinic dealing with sex workers in Kings Cross we had a regular, who was a heroin addict and sex worker from William Street. Her boyfriend was a low-life criminal junkie who's status in life would be improved if we called him a pimp. This being had nothing resembling any form of goodness within him.
One day he was out doing an "earn", a criminals definition of some criminal activity that results in money obtained. Driving his van through and intersection, he spied an old woman with a hand bag in arm, crossing the street, he approached the woman in the car. Leaning out the window to catch the bag whilst simultaneously accellerating, he caught the bag. But alas, the woman had the straps over her shoulder, as the bag was being pulled away, she turned and braced holding the bag for dear life. For the criminal low life, this pulled his shoulder out of it's socket, tore the nerves, broke the humerous and elbow.
Couldn't think of a more appropriate individual to have a deformed dead right arm with no function!
Just deserts. :)

The drive-by bag snatches were a favourite back in the 80's and 90's...many times resulting in an elderly woman being dragged along. Scum.

Equal force rules is an Australian thing.
NZ is "reasonable force" to subdue and restrain. it has different application for daylight hours and night time hours. Night being 30 mints before sun set and 30 mints after sun rise.
there are plenty of kiwi instances where a burglar or some other scum have been killed on private property with the property owner or dweller being acquitted out of hand, IR bid not proceed to court.
the only catch here is if you shoot the someone you will be charged under fire arms offences IE storage ( similar to aussie storage) but the counter is, I happened to be cleaning the rifle! at 3am? etc

I was born in Northampton and used to walk down "gold street" after walking up "bridge street" to catch the bus home from school. It's quite amazing that this story should end up in Australia
I think the jeweler's shop should give that lady a nice piece of gold for her bravery, although I'm sure the police would call it stupid behaviour

Health and safety rules here in the UK for the police say they should time their arrival at an incident so the criminal has just left.
This is so as to stop any chance of the police causing the criminal injury through their presence which may agravate the situation !
