I have been saving for a long time now and i have decided to buy my own computer . I need it for my flight simulator and landrover photos :D, so it needs good graphics. i have a budget of around $1000. I saw an ACER at Harvey Norman for $1099, it has 1GB graphics card, should i go with this one or is there anything else thats better for around the same price.

Thanks in advance.

Having always bought second hand, I can't help you! I prefer to pay 10% of retail for an oldie that still works, and if it doesn't then I shed no tears.:D

I wouldn't buy a computer from Hardly Normal. Take down the model number and go look in Office Works. Usually a bit cheaper there for the same thing.

Take down the model number and look at staticice.com.au - computer hardware price comparison site.

Please dont buy Hardly Normal, it will be top dollar and below spec for the money you will spend.

Try JIT's "Jeremy's IT Solutions" 3/ 717 Gympie Rd, Lawnton QLD 4501, Australia

He is an ex AJ and will back the PC up with warranty and build it for what you want it to do.

He is O-D's (on this forum) brother in law.
At least give him a call and see what your money can do with a non franchise shop.

Darren

And no I get nothing from refering apart from a email every now and then.

Also forgot he is a LR tragic as well with a nice D2

Mate, Build it your self. You service your Landy don't you.

Its not hard at all.

Here's are some links for information. One thing that you should not skimp on is the PSU. But you don't need spend big$ either.

Link to OCAU wiki page New System Recommendations - OCAU Wiki (http://www.overclockers.com.au/wiki/New_System_Recommendations#Gaming_Machine)

And a Whirlpool Sticky http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm't=1342565

And check MSY price list for parts. Best Prices On Quality Parts (http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/msy.htm)

Also use Staticice for price comparison staticICE - Compare Prices - Australia - Price comparison for gadgets and computer hardware (http://www.staticice.com.au/)

Keep in mind that you will need to purchase system builder/oem OS most likley Windows 7 home premium or professional unless your old operating system is a retail XP or you want to go the linux route( dont know FSX runs on linux).
You may be able to get a discount on OS and Office if your student.

Good luck.;)

Umart online at Milton have good deals in laptops. The also sell gaming boxes which might suit your purpose.

I understood compatibility btw motherboard, hard drive, graphics card and ram can be tricky. They will all work, some are better combinations than others. At least that was the case a couple of years ago according to a few computer blokes at Wk.

Even if you don't build it yourself you are able to get a far cheaper computer from an actual computer store as opposed to Hardly Normals. I cant recommend a shop in Brisbane but in Perth either Austin Computers, PLE or Netplus Micro computers would be able to give you a reasonable box at a very good price, already assembled and with a warranty.

The Mac iBook is around that price. Great computer, and with software included. Then again I have been using Macs since 1987. ;)

Cheers,

PC Shops only charge around $70 to put a pc together from your bought parts.

It not complex at all, you don't need to solder parts it all plug and play.

The only tool you need is a Phillips head driver.

Definitely talk to Inc, you'll get more bang for your buck and will only pay for something designed especially to meet your needs as opposed to paying for a mass produced generic unit that is designed to suit the average mum and dad with 2.5 kids

Buy from your LOCAL PC shop,,

For a 1st PC its the best way.
You get one hand built to your price/specs and talk to the guy that built it. All your warranty stuff is handled by a person you know.

there are lots of PC's for sale at less than 1 grand,,
but a serious gaming machine will cost you at least twice that,, :ohyes:
but your first one should be more fun than frowns;) :D:D
