congratulations on your first post Sean,
your question is so open ended its difficult to answer, fair to who? you? a dealer? whats fitted to it? what condition is it in? has it been towing a 2 tonne caravan for most of that mileage? but I'll give you $5k sight unseen.

Been looking for the same vehicle myself recently. As Chomby says, 25K should get you a good example with full service history, there are cheaper ones out there, and I also saw one yesterday for 31K, which I thought was a bit steep.

mine was $26k listed 3 yrs ago with all the cherries, ie lift, EFS, ARB lockers, ARB bullbar, good tyres, rego, immaculate condition, 120ks, hayman reese 3.5kg towhitch, electric brakes. If the one youre looking at has those goodies then its prolly worth $18-$20k
but I'll still give you 5k

Saw a 2003 model Disco 2 ( TD5 Turbo Diesel) at a second hand car yard here in Newcastle, pulled over to have a closer look. Looked in good nick from the road but as soon as you opened the door you could tell it has had a hard life. They wanted $19000 for it and it has done 199,000 k's. Turned around and walked away with the salesman chasing after me!!!;)

Hi Sean, welcome, as mentioned first up this is a very open ended question.
Firstly check out "Redbook" values and Glasss's guide.
Use this as a starting point only. Then look at the Car websites and see how the prices being asked compare to the supposed book values. Only compare apples with apples. IE Diesel D2a with Diesel D2a, not against V8's.

Be aware that location (country/ rural or middle of nowhere in my case) will have some affect on a vehicles sale price.

Go to a few yards then and check out the condition of paint, interior, kms and previous usage. Internet photos can be very deceiving. Try to avoid comparing, say a nice std auto with 7 seats against a 5 seat manual with lift and bars etc.

IMO you need to do this with at least 4 vehicles of similar age, kms, mods to get a good idea of the average price asked and the average value. Then you will have no trouble deciding what is fair for your purchase.

Never base your search on price alone. Absolute "steals" are possible but rare, usually you are the one stolen from down the track with unplanned repairs.

cheers

Sorry all i am still trying to navigate around the site.

Any way the Disco has never been off road, mostly driven by a lady, it has a tow bar, roof racks, abb bull bar and driving lights AkA spotlights.
The dealer has advertised it for $22990.

Does it have service history? Also just because they say its a lady owner doesn't mean it has.. And if it has it may also have been a caravan towing vehicle which is bad for tranny etc.

Either way it sounds like a reasonable price

A little off topic and probably cause a stir, but... owned or driven by a lady is IMO often a bad selling point. In my experience with many females associated with my life, vehicle driving is just that..... driven, never serviced and never maintained.:wasntme:
I may have to go hide now.
cheers

I advertised a 2002 V8 - 140,000klm for a friend for 17k with no bites in Aulro classifieds. IMHO the price difference buys a heck of a lot of petrol.
Cheers,

i just bought a D2a with 90,000km on the clock looks like new for around $22k it had no bullbar or steps etc it was a town car.so the car your looking at sounds a good price. mine just had a new turbo put on cause they were trying to find a intermittent faultwhich i found to be the egr valve .

I paid 8k for my 03 TD5 with bar, winch, lift, long range tanks and lots of other fruit but it had an extra 100k on it and is a bit rough body wise but A1 mechanically with a new trannie etc. Depends on what you want it for mate. Mine is strictly my 'bush pig' and suits my purposes perfectly. Not much point in me paying for an immaculate one as it'd end up like the one I have within a year or so anyway.

Congrats. This one I presume? Why was it reregistered?

If above board, sounds like you got a good deal. 2 weeks ago I paid 19K for a VGC 2003 D2a TD5 with ACE and 170K on the clock and full service history. No off road fruit though, which I do want. Had Rimmers look at it as a pre-purchase and they reckoned that was in excellent nic and a pretty good deal.
