Well after giving some of you blokes in this group a bit of curry on the odd occassion I have decided to join the D3/D4/RRS ranks with the recent purchase of a D3 ...and what a lovelly bit of gear it is to. :)
Primarilly I have gone down this path to have a good comfortable tow vehicle for our off road caravan as the D2a was struggling as many of you who have read from my previous posts and questions.
For now the good old D1 will still be the serious off road wagon though. So I'll just have to rely on the off road software that a D1 comes with to get me around.
cheers,
Terry

Hi Terry,
Good to hear that you chose a real 4WD.
The more you drive it, the more you will like it. Its the LR bug.
Cheers, Craig

Thank you both Craig and Connock
...As for choosing a real 4WD, both the D1 and D2a have proven to be pretty good 4WD's as well I would have to say.
In actual fact I think few D3/4's would be able to go with confidence were the old girl can when the going gets really rough.
As for the D2a well that is still a lovely car to drive and is more then capable off road and it eats up highway miles in comfort like few 4b's of its generation can.
;)
cheers,
Terry

Well done Terry! You will find the D3 is an amazing highway eater - and you will arrive as fresh as when you left.
You will also be pleasantly surprised how well the D3 does offroad.
Cheers,
Rob

Someone has to be brave around here Dave ...seriously the D3/4 area can be a scary place to visit some days. ;)
Re running an event up in Queensland, unfortunately not this year, but the plan is to take a round of the series back up to QLD raceway in 2012.

Well done Terry,
Having done the same thing recently myself can understand the decision.
The only thing I need to do now, is get the wife out of the D3 long enough so I can actually have a drive.
May have to buy a D1 or defender so I have a landie to drive again..
Goodluck with the new wheels, an awesome machine thats for sure..
Cheers Ean

Hey Ean,
I must admit I'm finding the D3 a real pleasure to drive, I've taken the long way home a couple of times already.
When I picked it up I took it straight to be serviced by the mechanic I use in Sydney just to make sure it had new oil and filters to be on the safe side.
While he was at it he cleared a number of fault codes that had been caused by a flat battery previously and believe it or not the old girl came to life power wise and ran much better.
I already have a Hawkeye for clearing the many and often recurring faults on the D2 so to be on the safe side I'll also purchase the software upgrade for the D3.
That being the case I'm more then happy as I was with D2 owners to assist any D3 owners in the area who need to reset any faults they may have with their D3's.
cheers,
Terry

Well done mate, I hope she serves you well and you'll see what we've all been banging on about for so long.
To your point though....I don't think there has ever been a question on any Discovery's ability to handle itself....:)
Cheers,
Kev.

My fellow D3 owners and I won't be bullied by you scummy D2 owners trying to tell us what kind of photo's we should take of our pride and joys ...I'll take girly happy snaps of the D3 parked in the back paddock if I want to. ;)
I have far greater challenges to overcome at the moment like trying to figure out how the GPS works and what is the best car polish to use to keep the D3 looking pretty. :D

Is that a polite way of saying I'm 'like a dog with two dicks'... as the shoe fits I don't mind wearing it. ;)
