exhaust bash plate?

Hi All,
I've been doing alot of reading about, and have seen evidence of, the exhaust pipe being damaged near the rear diff. So i am wondering what people have done about this {if anything}. Is there an off the shelf bash plate that can be fitted? Alternatively has anyone ever tried to make their own or re-routed the exhaust pipe.
I have been given some 8mm 5083 h116, so i am contemplating making my own, so if anyone has done so or even attempted to build one, your advice would be appreciated.

Hi Brian,

Haven't read about this on AULRO or in any magazines but I don't buy them religiously....or maybe I missed the threads.

I read the one about the D4 cracking a tail-pipe off during a 4WD of the Year comparo...the D4 was actually the yardstick....but they put that down to just a bad welding job.

I accidently backed over a stump in long grass in my D4 which split the bash plate but didn't touch the exhaust....

I jacked-up the rear mounting brackets on my D4 to stop the pipes from being lower than the suspension. Only a small improvement though and use Llams now.

I've seen these damaged from high gravel mounds in the centre of a road. I think the solution is to raise the vehicle, either by not exceeding 50 km/h or fitting LLAMS or shortened rods.

You can (and I have made a few for customers) fit a guard over the rear diff and exhaust pipes. However, it's difficult to make one that is strong enough without continually dragging on rocks itself. I have one client that's re-routed his exhaust system and only has the one pipe feeding back, which works well for him.

Really you just need greater ground clearance.

Thanks everyone, I now have enough information to work with. NeilP thanks for the link, i stumbled across that a few months ago then couldn't find it again so i appreciate the link.
I had already planned to be fitting a Llams this weekend {time permitting} but was still looking for rmore protection.
Gordon; looks like there is a very good chance that i will still be in town for your GOE seminar in March so i will talk more to you then.
