gday everyone, to save me typing everything out twice im going to copy it from where i started on one of the chrysler forums. feel free to add your input wherever.

cheers, mat

Gday everyone.

i figure now that ive sold most my other toys and now something is very slowly happening on this one that i should start a thread that at least i can go back over to diagnose any problems later on, or you guys can have a laugh over my stuffups.

the project started out as a 68 440 and 727 complete but stripped and in good nick, was going to build a mid engined rail sort of buggy with solid mounted rear axle and a vw front.

then i remembered i had read somewhere that rangies used 727 autos in some years (82 to 85 the first factory autos) and while doing a bit of research on the subject a land rover forum member pointed me in the direction of a local with an engineless 84 model complete with doorhandles etc stripped off and it had a 727, so i paid 400 and picked it up then trial fitted the donk into the engine bay. All looked like it was going to fit.
so i pulled the 727 out of the rangie and mated it to the front case of the bigblock one, i havent rebuilt it yet but its all the same internally with a few minor differences.

once that all went back together i bolted it and the engine into place and then segt about correcting the slant on the auto (rover tilted the auto ono its side a bit so the starter ended up in the right spot for their conversion, they used a scout auto with an adaptor plate)

i ended up just raising the rhs transfer mount 75mm (i think it needed to be 85 in the end) then set about manufacturing the engine mounts.
i will be using a body mounts (probably those schumaker poly lock ones) and have had to die grind the rover mounts a little (they use the same style with a smaller bolt) im trying to make it so everything drops into the stock locations.

The next stage of the plan was where i realised the rover diffs arent up to the task, so i brought a patrol coil cab, sold off all the bits and kept the diffs while covering costs. the gq patrol diff bolts straight into the mounts on the rover (the control arms are the same length and with apart) and just requires a custom panhard and draglink, in the rear i have welded the rover mounts to the patrol diff.
the tailshafts were easy, rover uses a 1310 u joint on pre 86 models and i managed to source a flange to bolt to patrol that takes 1310 uni's.
spicer part number 2-2-1949
the rear shaft is the correct length i havent checked front yet

alright everything isnt in order here, but ill put up some info on the engine.
was originally just supposed to be a re ring with a bit of a cam arp bolts and a dual plane 4bbl.
then some parts came up that changed a lot of that, through a forum member i purchased a set of stage vi mopar heads, complete with rocker gear etc. and on ebay a tunnel ram with injection bungs welded in came up cheap, ive always wanted to try injection so i brought it and am slowly working out how im going to do it.
looks like i will be running a delco ecu with a few alterations to run 54cc injectors on a vp ss tune. a delcohacking forum member is doing the tune cheap for me and it should be good enough to get it going at least, this will allow me to sort out all the mechanical stuff then take it to perth and get it dyno tuned, im just getting hold of some camira bits then i will start to get the rest of the gear.
as for what the engine is being built into now heres some goodies going into it

68 440 block crank and rods
arp head and rod bolts
440source girdle
stage vi heads with titanium locks stainless valves etc
10-1 forgies (compression will be closer to 10.5) at 30 over
electric water pump csr i think
tunnel ram injection with ignition control
new hardened oil pump drive with bronze gear
alluminium sump, will probably be tied somehow to trans sump and transfer with some form of bashplate
lunati voodoo cam Lunati 60303LK - Lunati Voodoo Cam and Lifter Kits - Overview - SummitRacing.com (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/LUN-60303LK/)
and all the other bits and pieces ive forgotten about.

i have some mopar performance rocker covers that have been choped up for some catch can setup and i will probably get the tops of some rover ones welded in there.
