I put my D2 in for an oil change and when the machanic took it for a test drive a fire in the engine bay started. All the wiring and plastic are cattus. Can the wiring be replaced and about how much. The machanic has insurance and the claim has been placed.

I put my D2 in for an oil change last Friday an it caught on fire.I don't know what happened but all the wiring and plastic has burnt. My question is can it be rewired successfully and about how much? The machanic has insurance ,thankfully.
What caused the fire? If it's just a matter of the engine bay loom and sundries it shouldn't be too bad but things are rarely that simple especially where alloy parts are concerned.

Do you know what caused the fire?[ short, hot exhaust], petrol or diesel? Cheers, Bob

Very hard to say without knowing the exact damage, but if being done by a mechanic you can double or triple the pasrts cost in labor.
Good mechanic lodging a claim on his insurance though, most you would have to prove it was something they did not just a fault in the car.
Hope you get it sorted.
Another alternative is to look for a good wrecked vehicle as a donor for the more expensive parts.

Thanks fellows. No I don't know what caused the fire.As yet the assessor has not been to look at the Disco. The fire was only in the engine bay.It burnt for a little while before it was put out.The lad didn't see my extingushers in the back.He waited for a truck to stop.THe owner of the machanic shop says that it will most likely be written off.

If its writen off you mya not get back for it what it will cost you to get a new one. See how much they are going to pay you out and if its not enough then demand the shop makes up teh difference !

Some pics of the damage might help those in the know give you a closer estimate.
