I recently did a group buy of fuel cooler and transmission guards for some brissie base guys on the forum from xxxxx 4X4.

Having already ordered over the secure internet facility, an extra set was requested so I emailed and asked them to add to the order. Mike emailed me and said no problem, please email your credit card details. I have been buying over the net for years and have never sent credit card details like that but figured I had already ordered from them, was contacted direct from with in the organisation so I sent the card number in 1 email and in a separated email sent the expiry date and 3 digit security code.

I immediately received a confirmation and even thought the single set was slightly more expensive than the multiples, it was only minor.

A couple of days later I was checking my credit card online and there was a fraudulent transaction listed as a Pay Pal transaction for $1,025. I knew I had not bought on PayPal and when I contacted them they had no record of the transaction. Cancelled card, reported to Visa etc etc.

I then emailed them via their web site...no answer so I phoned and asked to speak to the owned, a reported Liz. I explained the situation and she said it was impossible, Strangely she said that she did not receive the emails sent from their web page even though she claimed that all emails went directly to her. She gave me her direct email and so I sent her the details of both the fraud and asking why the difference in price even though both lots were shipped together.

No answer so I emailed her again and still no answer.

I have been re-imbursed by Visa but am very disappointed at the lack of answers from them.

It may all be above board but the lack of answers has left me wondering if there is a ring operating inside their business...is Liz really the owner or part of the problem.

Personally I would be giving them a wide berth in future.

I think heaps of people on here have bought from them with no problems.
That said, giving credit card details via email is never a good idea. I have given details over the phone - but never via email.

Question is... How did Pay Pal get involved?
Strange.

Someone's intercepted the credit card details and setup a paypal acct using the card as funds. Then bought up on it.

no naming and shaming on this site so i edited the original post

if you need to know who, email the author.

that said, it is sad they weren't very responsive

automatic filters are constantly scanning emails looking for that type of info.

never ever send card details in an email as plain text. (or any other medium for that matter) always make sure the info is encrypted in some way.

if you must send by email

create a notepad text file with the details, compress that file after you save it and then attach it to an email

I don't know about the issues, but Liz is Simons wife, and they are the owners.

Sorry I wasn't intending to shame but inform member of a POSSIBLE problem.

No Paypal transaction was recorded with Paypal....the paypal "name" and "account name" appeared only on my Visa statement.

As I say, I had never sent details by emails before. I thought seperating the details across 2 emails would have been protection. The fraud occurred on the same day I sent the emails but took a couple of days to appear on my online transaction history.

The other issue of lack of communication is really disappointing.

I am a small business owner and I would have appreciated someone bringing even the remotest possibility of something like that to my attention. I wasn't accusing them but letting them know what had occurred.

To not explain why the 2 transactions were priced differently is very poor even if they didn't want to get involved in the fraud aspect. This is a perfectly reasonable question.

All that was required was a quick email to me that they had reviewed and were confident that it did not happen internally and the reason for the price differrence was.......

The fact that an Australian bank could respond faster than them really says a lot!!

The goods are fine and the delivery service from their end was excellent...pity it took longer to get the goods thru Australain Customs than it did to freight them from the UK to Aussie.
