Yep. I had two quotes on a similar sized tree, maybe smaller. Both were $1000.

That is a bargain. Either it is in a very easy spot or the guy who quoted has no insurance!

Definitely a good price. My hubby is a tree surgeon and his company would charge much more than that for dropping it and removing.

does that $500 include insurance

JayBoRover

Does it include stump grinding?
I had a very large white gum removed (around 25m tall, double trunk), that was half overhanging my double garage, and it cost $1800. That included insurance, removal and the stump grinding. I was also quoted $5,800 to do same to another 5 trees, although they are much easier to deal with as they can be "dropped", rather than requiring a cherry picker.

$500 seems like a very good price, so I'd check on the insurance and stump grinding.

Cheers

Had a tree removed a couple of years ago including all waste $600.

Had two trees dropped a couple of days ago, $150, took him two hours. I'm still clearing up the mess - about $35 in tip fees excluding the trunk pieces.

As the bloke said, most of the cost is the time to get rid of it after it's down.

Good excuse to buy a chainsaw.

Damn good price going on what is charged around here. Check if he has adequate insurance and if the price includes taking the stump down to ground level.

As was said in an earlier post, much of the cost is the time taken and dump charges. Brisbane City Council charges by weight.

I have never seen a professional take trees to the dump. They usually mulch them then sell (or give away) the mulch.

There is even a website where you can register if you want mulch (either free or pay a $50 delivery fee).

We got about 12 m3 of good eucalypt mulch for $50!

Yep they have insurance ( according to their card )
Thanks for the replies looks like I should go with it then.
Was actually $550 now I look at it.

They have their own big mulcher.
The tree is a chilean pencil willow, the tall and thin ones with a single trunk. So not lots of limbs to cut off.
I dropped the other 9 or so smaller ones myself - I'm not confident on this one is about a metre diameter at the base and closer to the house.
SWMBO has vetoed me doing it.

I had two v. large pine trees and a number of tall bottle brush taken out at my place. The contractor's crew ran them through the chipper and he asked me if I wanted to keep the stuff which I decided to do. He gave me his mobile no. and said if I wanted any more to give him a call and he would deliver some from any nearby job that was convenient, no charge. I asked if he didn't sell the stuff and he said they get far more than they can sell so it has to go to the tip at exorbitant charges.

cheers

Well job's done already. Samoan run outfit - I think the whole extended family was here.
Only took them an hour and a bit.
But they've got the machines and insurance I suppose that's what you're paying for

Trobbo I'll pm you their details.

Remove the cost of insurance, fuel and wear and tear on the plant, and divide the rest by the number of people doing the work. I would guess most of them aren't making much money.

I had Samoans or Tongans do my tree for $400 after receiving $1000 quotes from others. Like you say, it seems the whole family was involved.

I wish I could find their card so they could do another tree.

Hey Wayne, Just wondering if you can pass on the details to me of the Samoan fella's who removed your tree, I have about 6 large pine trees that need removal and it's sure to cost a fortune if I use Taylors or someone like that.
That would be a life saver!

Hey there, are you in Melbourne? Can you pass on their details, that would be a great help, always good to find reasonably priced tradies.

Please be careful when hiring these people, there's a mob going around Brisbane giving low quotes, turns out they are not insured, they have business cards, the giveaway is they only accept cash payments. Bob.

Obviously plenty of them around. - A whole family group were working opposite my place a couple of Sundays ago on a large eucalypt, anyway council rangers turned up, job stopped, most of the tree is still there.

A rellie in Brisbane just had a large leopard tree removed. It was in between the house and a 2m fence and there wasn't much room.

Quotes varied from $1100 to almost $4000!!! (all inc stump grinding).

Some wanted to take the fence down to do the job.

The $1100 quote did a great job and left the fence standing and undamaged. I think some companies have lots of work due to the floods so are asking silly prices.

Maybe you got ripped :wasntme:

I have 3 quotes. 1 a bit under 7K, 1 a bit over 7K and 1 that is about 14K. I must admit I was expecting to be paying 15 - 20K when I started as these are all in my back yard so access is limited.
