Yep my disco is a dog.... always marking its territory. Oil leaks.
I have a persistant oil leak from the bottom of the front diff on my disco.
I have laid under it with the engine running. No it is not coming from the engine. It is the front diff itself.
It is leaking out of a pinhole in the circular weld where the centre housing is welded in. Would you believe it? No not at the bottom but at about 4 o'clock, looking from the front.
My proposed method of treating this problem is, drain the oil from the diff. Thouroughly clean the area with brake cleaner ( to get rid of the oil inpregnated), then when it is absolutely clean, coat the area with Devcon Steel appoxy. Then prior to the devcon going hard, pein it in to the hole with a small ball hammer or drift, wipe the excess off and then apply another light clean coat.
Anybody out there got a better suggestion? Taking out the diff and having the pinhole welded up is out of the question. No way hossay.
