Not sure if i need a total rebuild or not but the front output has around .5mm play up and down on it. its leaking a little bit of oil out the front but not lots. Can i get to the front output bearing and seals without striping the whole thing down? and where can i get the parts from. and do you think there is more damage than just the bearing. IE Worn teeth, Worn shafts?

The car has done around 230000

should just be bearing,
undo front uni move front shaft out of the way, remove flange, remove seal, then theres a circlip holding the bearing in, remove that then remove bearing.

Can all be done in car. try a search, theres a step by step picture tutorial floating around somewhere

From memory the .5mm play in the front of the transfer case output shaft is normal. The leak isn't or should I say it is!

I rebuilt my fathers Xfer in his 1990 county with the LT230 / LT85 box at 278k. The bearings were nearing the end of there life. I think that at 300k it would be starting to get noisy. The seal is easy enough to replace but I think you will have heaps of trouble getting the bearing out. Also there is probably a lot of slop in the drive line??? this is the worn out thurst washers in the centre diff. There are 4 that are set in thickness and 2 that you can select the thickness. It is suprising once replace how nice they are to drive.
