Hi all, I'm thinking about selling my Discovery ( and a few of my other cars) and buying a new Defender. I've gotten a few prices via Redbook etc, and then looked at some second hand ones here and on various other websites.

New (including on-roads etc ) according to Redbook - $53,800

The weird part I have seen demo models and second hand one for more money than a new one, $56,265K (for a 2010 demo) and even ones with 50,000km on them that cost more than a new one - and they don't have much in the way of accessories that could justify the price.

Is there a waiting list for the 110 wagons or something?

I got onto LR's web site and sent every dealer an email from Adelaide to Cairns. Some replied, most didn't, but one of the ones who did got the sale.
I think their hands are ties with what they have in stock, what's coming, and what been purchased from the stock off the boat.

Someone on here recently bought from up north who lives in Brisbane I think.
Cairns contacted me, I'm in Brisbane. Definitely give Bruce Lynton a call on the Gold Coast. Have heard Toowoomba are good as well, well there service section is.
But it all depends who's got the stock and colour you like. If they are keen they will make it happen.
However I have heard dealers tend to think you are unique, you want the Defer so it sells itself. I found haggling can be difficult as the players (dealers) are limited, and few have any stock to play with. So you give in or order and wait.
Some dealers also tell you one is on the boat, so you sign, but fail to tell you it has sold already.

As for Redbook, it's only a guide. I thought it didn't include gov taxes and delivery as they vary from state to state.

My 130 listed at a whopping 61K with alloy tray, factory snorkle and tow bar. I singed at 56700. Not sure if that's a deal, but that was my deal.

After phoning every Land Rover dealer in the country, I have just paid the deposit on a white 110 station wagon for $49,990 - drive away. All going well I will get it next week. :)

I'm going to look at also getting a few accessories such as the expedition roof rack and a snorkel from LR.

It really does pay to shop around and reward the good dealers and ignore the ones with poor service.

Especially true when I get told by a local dealer that the price is $56K and when I queried why Redbook list is lower his comment was "then buy it from Redbook then"

You really wonder how some dealers make money.

I'll never understand dealerships that just dont give a stuff. Surely they cant be doing so well they can ignore sales.

It can depend on the salesman too.I bought my Puma from Barbagallo's who don't have the best reputation but the guy I got was excellent. Pat

Iain - you are the man with the best toys :D

Congratulations on the Defender, and an excellent price too. I think I paid about $52K for mine on the road back on 2007.

I'm going to start with the Expedition roof rack - what should be next on the accessories list?

My thoughts are:

1. Bull Bar ( ARB / TJM or Mulgo)
2. Snorkel ( Safari / Mantec or Land Rover)
3. Mulgo Ex box and rear bumper bits
4. Steering gauge and diff guard
5. Transmission guard.

By the way, will my D1 wheels fit the Puma?

Go the Mantec "New Plastic Jobbie" snorkel - they are tops! Didn't know that Mulgo did Bull Bars....

Your D1 wheels will fit right on.

Great news - I have 6 x 0mm offset steel wheels with 265/75-16 KM2's Alternatively I can get the Boost Alloys re-finished and fit them. I'll sell the D1 with a set of 90% tread 265/75-70 Pirelli ATR's - just have to decide what wheels to keep.

Sorry - got mixed up QT engineering
