Finally it has got the better of me. For the last few years i have tried to exclusively use vendors from here or retailers recommended on here.

Please pick up your game!!!!!! Over the next few weeks I will spend quite a few thousand dollars - OVERSEAS - not because it is cheaper (my wife and I could fly to England for the difference in price) but because of the lack of service provided by retailers in this country. No return phone calls when promised, vague prices quoted by email 'probably $200 to $300' or 'last one we did was $5000.00' when I specifically asked 'how much for xyz items including freight and could you include your bank details so I can pay you'.

From where I live you can see the a...hole of the world and with freight being expensive and delays up to 2 weeks to get parts I don't need to be stuffed around by poor service. I get parts from Europe in four days and the email I sent to a supplier in Turkey (yes Turkey) last night (same one I sent to a supplier here) was answered by the time I got home from work today with every bit of information I requested.

Vendors I want to use you!!!! Please pick up your game. When you receive phone calls, emails etc, listen to what your customers are asking for and respond promptly, because the rest of the world is leaving you for dead. I have not mentioned names because every retailer in this country can improve, some are excellent some of the time, some are good, some only the boss is good, some are bloody terrible, but none provide excellent service all of the time.

Vendors, if you find this objectionable, I suggest you have a very good look at the service you and your staff provide, because if you believe you are providing the excellent service your customers demand, you are in dreamland. World records are broken by Athletes who dedicate their life to excellence and striving to be the best, business is the same, if you do today what you did yesterday and don't strive to improve you are going backwards because your competition is surely well ahead of you by now.

I don't want to start an argument, I just want vendors on this forum to be the best they possibly can be, I want you to think about how you and your staff treat customers, I want you to give me the information I request so I can send you the money you need to survive, even if you are more expensive than OS, or another retailer here. I will spend my money where I get the best service, I get awfully pee..d off when I get stuffed around....

All vendors are not the same. I sent Davey a pm today and supplied a phone number, phone rang less then 5 minutes later. Got to be happy with that.:D

Shouldn't that be "I FEEL BETTER NOW"........:D

Know exactly what you on about.....last week walked into the dealership where I bought my last new car from (couple of years ago). Salesman sitting in the customers lounge, feet on the low table, reading the newspaper, go over to him.....after awhile he decides to acknowledge my presence......with " Yeah mate waddija want", feet still on table, paper still in hand..........I point to my car parked outside and said " My wife wants to buy another one of them, cash deal," Salesman:"you trading that in?" Me: NO! That's my car...my wife wants one too, same as that one, we will pay cash. How much...on the road" Salesman looks at me, then the missus ( she left her glock at home...Thank God, I must admit here that I was dressed in my 'climbing under the Landy' clothes but my missus wasn't, I don't think she has any Landy clothes) he says "Oh their about $xx,xxx" " That is very interesting" says I, starting to feel the furance fire-up inside me " But...I need an on the road price and we want a few accessories fitted too" Salesman stretches....Ahhhh Ha thinks I....he is getting up but.....no!......he looks over his shoulder " Hey Billy-Bob!" (name change to protect the guilty) The @$%&% how much on the road?" 'Why ya wanna know that for?' replies Billy-Bob. Salesman: "Bloke here says he wants to buy one" Billy-Bob slaunders over to us and says " Oh their about $xx,xxx" ...."ABOUT! " I said "Don't you know what the on road price is? " " Yeah" says Billy-Bob " I can find out" ................by this stage my Celt ancestory is starting to kick in.......real strong "FIND OUT!" I whispered in my best riot controlling voice " You blokes DO work here ....Hey! Your'e not the cleaners or anything like that...you are salesmen?" "Yes we are " says Billy-Bob " In fact I happen to be the Sales Manager" ........"Woopie Do" says I " What?... this your first day on the job" The salesman pipes up from behind his newspaper " Hey! No need to be offensive!" "OFFENSIVE!" says I " Matey I was being really, really polite...I haven't even started on Offensive...yet" by this stage the missus has a wrist lock on me and is attempting to swing it around to get a straight-arm bar applied whilst attempting to drag me to the door. The sales team and I parted on mutually benifical grounds...they with their health and I with my freedom.

Go down the road to another dealership.......walk in fellow walks up after allowing us to Ohhh and Ahhh at all the shiney machines introduces himself and enquires as to our needs in transportation. I point out that it is the missus who is wanting a car, new one, she is very particular, owns a glock...don't upset her, expert in Control and Restraint, can inflict severe pain." Fellow looks at me smiles and says " I know you, you from up the hill, I dealt with you when your Officer got killed and he had the car on order" "Ohhhhh " says I " Yes thats right" then he said ( after being told what the missus was after) we have this one here the drive away price is $xx,xxx but I will drop a $1000 off and fit head light and bonnet protectors, fitted mudflaps all round and fitted floor mats front and rear".....can we have a think on that says I, sure he said, that offer will be good whenever you decide to come back.

We get out side and the missus asks what I think and I said we had been to every dealer within a 100 klm radius and I did not think she was going to get a better price or car. She turns and goes straight back tell him she will have the car.......Okay he says...and I will also get the carpets, mats and seats scotch-guarded for you........... Whats that going to cost? I said clutching my wallet.......Nothing! he said (Don't you just love that word).

So.....Missus now driving around in her new car, $1000 off the retail price and close to another thousand worth of accessories/ treatment....and I got to have numerous cups of coffee and empty their biscuit barrell:D.

Service........would I recommend them....most certainly would...fantastic people

The above comment - Fixed!!!

Yes, I have bought two item from Dave and he was very prompt with his service, but even Dave needs to keep ahead of the pack. It seems that countries most affected by the GFC have lifted their game. Some of our retailers have marked time and been left behind. Message to Gerry Harvey there, but I don't know what forums he visits to direct the comment at him.

your obviously shopping with the wrong people in Aus

You know at the present moment there are 220 users online and this is a quiet time during the middle of the business day. Last night there were 325 and in the evening in Eastern Australia we can sometimes get over 500 online simultaneously.

For a free service to the majority of users worldwide, subscriber or not, I hardly think we can complain if occasionally we experience a little congestion.

All I can say is good work Inc! :BigThumb:

I try to shop with the ones who are recommended on here and advertise on here and contribute here and I have been disappointed with the service provided. Even I can come up with individual examples of excellent service, but what I want to see is consistency and I don't want to phone five different suppliers to get one part. If you would like to list the right people I am more than happy to give them a go - minus the ones who have already pee..d me off. I would also like to see the wrong people improve their game because they are contributing to the exodus of money to OS suppliers.

The single point I am trying to get across is no business operating in this very small world can continue to do today what they did yesterday, I want aussie vendors to be the best. My experience recently has been the service provided by OS vendors on average is superior to the majority of vendors I deal with here. I am still waiting for responses to emails and phone calls I made to local vendors, if I don't have them by tomorrow the rest of the money I am about to spend will be gone OS. $7000.00 already has.....(not just on Rover parts)...

and... in the last two years I have also PM'd and emailed some very, very regular contributors on here and not received a response.

I hope I have made my point and local vendors will have a very close look at the service they and their employees provide.

Rick.

Hey Rick,
I have a supplier that I use regularly with good service and response and great prices. Drop over and see me at the Emergency Services Building or at home or pm me and I will send you the link. I can also email you a complete parts listing. I finish nights on Sat morning.
Sometimes they dont have everything in stock but will put it on back order if you wish.
Cheers

mate,
I do feel with you and share your opinion about the attitude, or rather the lack of it, of vendors these days. Appalling, isn't it? The customer is king? No way! Not any longer that is. Unfortunately you are not alone with this problem, down there in Oz. Even here (Europe) you are dealt with by some companies as if the customer is a bl**dy nuisance rather than the reason why they are in business. The advantage over here is that we have more competition, so I have picked my main suppliers and stick to them. Consistent service, even if it comes at a price sometimes. I only get annoyed again if I have to deal with people of the I-have-no-interest-in-dealing-with-you category when I need that particular item none of the others can provide.
Cheers

I for one offer the best service I can, I work two jobs so I might not reply to emails in 5 mins but I do my best.

I do understand what you are getting at though, and I can completely sympathise with the post about the car salesman. Its rough when you need to go in and beg to buy a car.

In defence of Australian supplier I have used a few and found them to be quite good. British 4wd is ahead of the pack on service though, Allan is excellent.

Firstly, Rick - good comparison with professional athletes - I liked that.
Secondly, this site should only be free to a user for a month or so. If a user is still coming back after that, they're obviously benefiting from it and should be contributing to the upkeep. If they say they can't afford to pay, they obviously can't afford to run a LR (even though they can still afford their ciggies and booze). I'm a silver subscriber (and wondering why my signature thingy has changed back to master) because the advice I have been given has already saved me many more dollars in repairs than if I hadn't visited the site. The sharing of advice is of immense value and the administrators and moderators shouldn't be bleeding themselves dry for the benefit of others. I believe it's high time for everyone to chip in, otherwise go to one of those other sites and see what value you get. My 2 bobs worth anyway :)
cheers Gerald

Without this place I'd have sold the disco years ago because of a lack of cash to keep it going, but thanks to the knowledge from this place and the cash saved by being able to do the work myself I have been able to keep the disco even though the tightest of financial times.

Yeh, you are probably right. I hadn't even given it consideration, I occasionally look at other forums chasing information, but always end up back here anyway. I have certainly received value for money and the cost is less than my iced coffee bill every month.

I will be back on the phone next week looking for more toys for Rover so I will see how I go.

You are dead right about suppliers in this country. My usual first approach is by email and if they can't be bothered to answer that then I don't go any further. (I can just imagine the excuse: "But we get so many emails!")

And I'll also favour someone who has their act together so that they have a website with actual prices on it, and a shopping cart so that you can buy online. A few minutes of click, click, click, pay online and you're done. It may be more work for a business but it will make them more money. I'll buy something in an instant if, a) I can actually find it on a website, and b) I can pay for it right away. There's nothing I hate like a site that says, "We have lots of parts. Give us a call!" Sure I will! I love spending heaps of time on the phone!

Not when I can go to an English site, find the odd obscure part I need, and have it a week or two later on - consistently. I buy an embarrassing amount of parts and I need to know they'll turn up.

I realise running a business isn't easy, but on the other hand I'm not here to fund somebody's shop that keeps them comfortable without working too hard.

Mmmm, that venting does feel better. :D

As for this site, I was a silver subscriber but I never got a reminder to renew and didn't even notice for a while that it had lapsed! So I must sort that out soon!

I use a mob in Tassie, for the life can't remember what they are called and also a mob in bayswater. They have both been fantastic everytime and all parts I've ordered have arrived next day, provided I call in the morning. Or you could just ring rovacraft or ULR landrover where most of the parts come from anyway.
