Ways to add further range to an LPG V8 (scuba tanks)?

I'm in the middle of deciding between my V8 and trading it off for a Tdi, I think I'm going to go the diesel but just in case are there any ways I could get a lot more range out of mine by adding sneaky fuel tanks anywhere in the car?

Currently it has two LPG scuba tanks under the car where the petrol tank used to be which carry around 60 - 70ltrs of LPG, and a little 30ltr petrol tank. Plus side is I still have all my boot space so it's a great vehicle for getting around town and doing short trips away but not so much for big touring like I want to do.

Any decent ways I can sneak some more petrol in the car without invading my boot space? I tried searching but didn't find much.

Just curious to hear what people have done.

i was looking at this myself when a set of sill tanks come up on ebay so i bought them, one on ebay recently but i went down the TDi route
i still have them 40 litres a side filler go in the wheel wells they need cleaning inside or so i have been told.
a bit far away though for you i think?

Seriously though, you can extend the range of most LPG systems by up to 20% by adding lambda control (oxygen sensor) to the gas, then there's twin petrol sill tanks for touring. Since they are filled only for long trips all you need is an electric pump for each tank to pump into the corner tank when it gets low. Any old RRC carby tanks will do for that. About 90 litres of extra petrol that way. They usually fill through a hatch in the floor.:)

That sounds like it would work a treat if I stayed with the petrol. I'm sure 90 litres plus the 30 I've got already would be plenty of range for a trip...just might end up costing a bit but that's another issue ;)

I've had exactly the setup described for just on 10 years now, 40 litre tank under each sill, filled from the wheel arches, transfer pump and selector valve fills the main tank from the sill tanks. Initially installed on my 88RR when setting up for our first big outback trip and recently transferred to my 1990RR off road/commuter vehicle. Long Range Automotive in Lilydale did the original supply & installation. Cost $1600 in 1991, lot of money but has been very handy over the years. They come up on eBay fairly regularly these days. If you're looking at 2nd hand, don't settle for the ones that fill through the floor, hang out til you see a set with the wheel-arch fillers.
