G'day all. I have a query that someone here will hopefully be able to assist with.
I am currently negotiating a private sale on a 99 Disco Series 2. It's in Melbourne and I am up in SE Qld. I have had an automotive workshop do a pre-purchase inspection. They had the vehicle for half a day and I believe they did a thorough job.
The following came up as needing attention:
Fuel Pressure Regulator leaking
Rear tailshaft coupling worn
RHF CV boot split/leaking
Windscreen chip that would fail a RWC.
The estimate they gave to do these 4 things was $1300.
As it stands I was going to do the purchase without a RWC, having negotiated a discount due to these 4 items.
Now, the query I have is this:
I did a Vehicle Info Pack on the Vicroads website to check for outstanding finance, writeoffs, etc and it came back with this under (Part 3) "Is the vehicle recorded as stolen?"
No, however engine was assigned/replaced 28/01/2005
This coincides reasonably closely with a change of ownership 1.5 months after this date.
Has anyone else had a vehicle that has had an engine replaced and subsequently seen this on one of these vicroads reports?
I would also like to know if LR dealers are able to track the age of an engine using the engine number. If this is the case I may be able to find out if the engine that is currently in the vehicle was a reconditioned motor or a new one.
What do you reckon?
Thanks in advance. One more thing if I may: does $1300 for those 4 items above sound fair?
