While recently in Tasmania I came across this Ford tractor fitted with an 8N flat head V8 engine, after some discussion with the owner he assured me that it is the real thing and not something some one had made from parts and that the RAAF and Aust army had them back in the mid 1940s.
I googled the subject and there is some very interesting reading for any tractor buffs.
On approaching this tractor from the rear I thought it was a furgie and did not at first notice the V8 engine. After realizing it only had a 3 speed gear box I then started looking very closelyThe owner started it up for me and it runs as sweet as with a exhaust note that only a ford v8 can produce.

Certainly appears Fergy like. There appears to be an adaptor plate between the engine and gearbox bellhousing.Would have thought the old sidevalve v8 might have had trouble keeping its cool on low speed tractor work.

Gotta love the protective clothing the kid in the last video is wearing. Oh how things are different in america. Helmet and long sleeves would be a minium here in the nanny state.

Intersting tractor i must say, sounds good.

Saw one of these at the Wellington Vintage Fair yesterday. And the resemblance to the Ferguson is no coincidence - Ford built tractors for Ferguson under a famous "handshake agreement" that later enriched a number of lawyers when they fell out, eventually gaining Ferguson enough capital to get Standard (Rootes Group) to start building the familiar Ferguson tractors.
