I'm down in Bright, Vic, for the 2011 National V-Strom Gathering. The roads down here are fantastic for riding. Some of them my wife and I drove in the Two Wheels Forum 2009 Xmas Party support vehicle. However, some of the gravel roads and tracks we've ridden over the past few days have been difficult for me. It's been a long time since I've ridden in the dirt and never on a big heavy bike loaded up with packs.

I've been very surprised at how good the V-Strom 650 is to ride on these twisties. Some of the corners just go on and on - and on. Then one looks down at the speedo to find one is well over the 100km/h speed limit. At least the Victorians have put decent speed limits on these roads. In NSW, they'd have a limit of 70-80 km/h.

The tall Givi screen gives good protection from the wind so the V-Strom is less tiring to ride at speed than the Yamaha XJR1300.

I think we need to import the roads to NSW - or I'll have to come back on the 1300.

Thursday was Sydney to Tumut via Gunning and Wee Jasper. Friday was Tumut-Corryong-(near) Tallangatta-Eskdale-Mitta Mitta-Omeo-Mt Hotham-Bright. That dirt on the Omeo Highway C543 is a bitch.

Today I took a short ride out to Falls Creek via Mt Beauty then back. About 2.5 hours of flicking left-right-left-right. Loved it!

Absolutely wasted on bloody Victorians!

:D

Heading back north tomorrow via Mt Beauty-Albury-Temora for a visit to the Temora Aviation Museum.

Tried The Great Ocean Road?

I no longer have a train set. I've retired. :wheelchair:

Re the GOR, I've only driven it in the Forester. One day I'll use the bike on it, too.

Tried The Great Ocean Road?

Only driven the GOR, but would love to do it on a bike one day.

If you're going through during working hours then I won't get a chance to catch up with you sorry.

As for roads - you haven't ridden great roads until you've visited Tasmania :)

However VIC is alright..... :)

Yes, that Tawonga Gap Road is a beauty, I love hunting the Commodore through there, it would be great on a bike. Being a rep in the area ( but based in Melb) means that midweek you are pretty well guaranteed the road to yourself.
I passed a silver Territory on the Hotham road late last year,( I thought the single yellow line was so you knew where the road centre was) met someone on Hotham & the Territory stopped, driver got out, it was the Lakes Entrance police Sargeant & he wasn't very impressed !!
There was a recent law that makes overtaking on them illegal:eek:.
Luckily he was content in just ripping in to me...
Those roads aren't wasted on me ;)

I'm at the Big4 caravan park. I quite like Bright, too. There was a rockabilly festival on here and some of the restored American Iron (cars) are very nicely done

Jeez, Gillie, I'd forgotten you lived down here.

DeeJay, not sure I'd like to punt a Dunnydore around here. Better you than me. :D

Chris, my roommate here at the caravan park is from Launceston and says Tassies is good but he's really enjoyed the riding here. We are travelling together to Temora tomorrow to look at aeroplanes. Sorry we won't get to see you in Albury. I didn't realise you'd moved from Wagga.

I live there. Drive a blue Classic LSE and often leave it parked under the trees opposite the information centre when walking the dog and was then cruising around a bit- saw the bike but of course didn't pay any real attention - no reason to - I see lots of bikes travelling through here. Glad you liked the place though.

The dirt from Mitta Mitta to Omeo is crap indeed. Only done it the once but swore if I ever did go back it would be in a Sherman tank or similar.
The downhill run into Mitta Mitta on the bitumen is impressive though. Endless downhill corners for 12 or 15 k's.

Its minus 3 points and about $280 if you cross a single line in QLD.
