I have just installed a Frontrunner 40l water tank in the LR Quarter panel, and used it for the first time this weekend. The water tasted of plastic. How do I go about getting rid of the taste? I thought it would be fine, as the tank did not smell of plastic when I installed it. Oh well had plenty of washing up water!!

Thanks,

Ken

maybe fill and flush a few times with hot water would speed the process of removing the tase up.

Did you fill with a normal garden hose - taste can come from that

Yes it is a food grade tank, sold for the purpose of being a water tank.

Yes I did fill it with a garden hose, and it was in the sun for a while. Did run it until it was cool however.

what about pouring some lemon juice or vineagar in there........

its basically an edible disinfectant.........

otherwise.....there are tablets you can buy specifically made for sterilising water tanks....these should do the trick......

Do not use a garden hose to fill a water tank for drinking
It doesn't mater how old the hose is you it will give a plastic
tast to the water

Just flush it with hot water and maybe then with cold water. I flush the tank in the camper before filling it before each trip and its been fine. Keep it empty when not in use.

Check out Whitworth's Marine. They have plenty of products that take out the plastic taste that you describe.

Caravan shops or many hardware stores will sell food grade hose pipes.

Always fill mine with the garden hose (nylex) and when we camp, we have kids coming up to drink the water it tastes so good! ..... and before anyone asks, we do NOT add anything to the water

We fill ours with a food grade hose, but for the first wee while there was a really plastic taste. We put a teaspoon of bicarb soda in the water and it soon cleared.
Cheers.

Fill it with beer that will fix it.

As for filling with a garden hose, if you run and flush the old water out of the hose it will be ok. The hose that caravan shops sell is for when a caravan is connected to the tap and the water is then sitting in the hose for periods of time.

I often drink straight from a hose when I have been using it to water or wash something and when finished have a big drink. I tastes fine.

Dave.
