Car not locking: LR first timer - HELP...

hi there everyone! I have recently bought a 2000 LR D2 TD5 and thought I'd introduce myself. I have a few issues with the car already!!! Namely back LHS door not opening, and after much reading on this site I think we need to get a new actuator and self install. Which is ok.

However in the past few days the car will not UNLOCK using key fob - it locks fine using the fob - but won't unlock. Thus am using the key to open drivers door which sets off the alarm much to the joy of the neighbours.

Have called local auto electrician who suggested I drop off car asap and they will redo the whole central locking system?? Not sure I really want to do that as it will probably cost a fortune (I just got new brakes and 2 new tyres + purchase price and insurance etc etc) and I really DON'T want to take it to a LR dealer which will probably cost more.

After doing heaps of reading on this site - I kind of think it is a prob with the BCU??... I have downloaded the workshop manual....

Does anyone have any ideas of what I should practically do now???

Park on the road and lock.
Then wait 5 minutes and go out and unlock.
If it works then you have a job on your hands!

My sisters house has had something installed nearby which interferes with my D2...
Never used to, but now it's key only...
Park 20mtrs down the road and no problems.

Also, try your spare key. You may need a new battery!!!!
