Gday All,

Our youngest Daughter (16) is presently on the sailing ship Young Endeavour which sailed from Sydney and is heading to somewhere near Newcastle, then back down to Jervoise bay then back to Sydney.

They have no phone or internet for 11 days so am wondering how that is going down with the crew.

Full credit to our Daughter for applying and getting chosen, and also to the Navy Cadets for giving her the option to apply and fully supporting her application and selection.

I am unsure if the Young Endeavour is classed as a Tall ship, but from the stuff they sent us and the pics and footage I have seen she is an impressive ship.

Cant wait to see the pics and hear the tales of her voyage, and with them all having to scale the 44mtr main mast it will be a dramatic account im sure..

Will just have to keep reading the daily captains report on the web to see how they are going, and await the first hand report next weekend when she gets home.

Cheers Ean

We did a couple of hours on her out of Stanley about 12 years ago (may not of been that long ago), kids got to take the helm for a short period. It is a wonderful vessel to be on. I am sure yourdaughter will enjoy it, wish I was younger
cheers

That'll be a quiet 11 days for you Ean.

Bit like the 9 that Luke was on the Kokoda Track.

I'm sure she'll enjoy it.

What a great opportunity for a young person. Good on her for applying and being accepted and I'm sure she'll have a ball.

I spoke to the Young Endeavour quite a few years ago now in Bass Strait - they were running downwind on a westerly course in heavy weather, we were trying to beat to the east in a gaff schooner that is terrible to windward with shortened sail. After a discussion with them about the weather on VHF we did a 180 and returned to Western Port until the wind changed!
