View Full Version : Mystery switch?

Sitting in the car yesterday and noticed a switch I've never seen before.
It's under the guages and above the interior light switch to the right of the centre of the steering wheel (on a 93 mod Defender).

It looks like a factory fitted switch and I thought it's a shame it's not an immobilizer because I haven't noticed itin 6 months. Turned it on and off a couple of times and didn't seem to do anything but not while driving.

Maybe it's an electric overdrive or "super boost" switch and I've had another 100HP sitting there all along :-)

Does anyone know what it might be?

Hi,
it is not the fog-light switch is it?
I have forgotten the colour of the wire, but it is only active when low beam is on.
cheers

Could be mate, didn't know it had fog lights? Are they built into the normal head lamps? How could I tell?

Fog lights? Heated rear window? Hazard lights? Ejection seat (with delay)???
Are there any pictograms on it or is it a plain blank one?

The fog light is on the rear, looks like a red version of the reversing light, I think only works when the headlights are on low beam. I converted mine to a second reversing light.

Not a diff lock switch?
That's where I have my switch for the Maxi Drive Diff Lock...

Wiring colour for a fog light is Red with a Yellow tracer. At least that's what's on my 90.
It could also be the heated rear window (not that you would need it over here :D ) as mentioned previously.

Is it a push button, slide, rocker switch or something else? Does it have a light to indicate if it is on, or any markings?
There is a push on push off button in the same region in my County that doesn't seem connected to anything when i've tried it, I think it was for an aftermarket worklight or rear interior light but can't be sure. The switch doesn't seem to affect anything.
