G'day guys, time to replace the speakers in my rear doors, I'm used to pulling the door trims off falcons but not D2's. Any advise, photo's would be much appreciated. Search function not being much help with specific info.
Cheers guys

Hi mate,
Removal of trims is pretty easy, there is a few screws in the handle and behind the opening lever and then it is just clips. If you use a trim removal tool or something similar you shouldn't have any problems, I think from memory there is about 10 plastic clips on each trim. Slide the removal tool under the trim (between metal door skin and trim) to find clips. Once clips have been levered open trim will just pull off with exception to door lock sticking out the top. Try to be careful with clips as they can break and they are unique to LR, ebay sells replacements pretty cheap ( I have just ordered some). I'll try and find some photos, at the moment I have my front door trims off to install some sound deadening.
Cheers Matt

Let it be known that if you intend to change the main speakers in the rear doors, it isn't necessary to remove the whole door trim, simply gently remove the grill with a flat head screw driver or similar & presto, everything is accessible :)
No more vibrating speaker cone :)

That is very good to know! I'm thinking about a speaker upgrade too.
What did you end up installing in there as in sizes, brand e.t.c.? Are the fronts the same size?

I put in a pair of 180w 3way kenwoods, 6" rounds matey. I'd assume the fronts are the same size. Only minor mod I had to make was that the screw holes didn't line up so I fingered round behind them to make sure I wasn't gonna hit anything & drilled a couple more :)

No worries:)
My reasoning was more as a repair rather than upgrade. The Harmon/Kardon system is fantastic but I've got a HD 7" touch screen DVD headunit I'd love to install but I'm having difficulty finding someone down my way who knows how to install the unit & maintain the 12 speakers already existing.

Yeah, integrating the OEM amp into an aftermarket head unit can be a tricky thing.
In theory, it's easy... Head unit sends signal and power to the amp, signal is then send through the amp to the speakers.
But that's without looking at the specific connections to and from the HK system. Then you've got the steering wheel button integration issue.
I'm quite up to speed with installing head units, so I will have a look at the RAVE wiring diagram and let you know how easy/hard it is if you like?
I'll take my laptop down the coast with me this weekend and have a look during one of the relaxing moments.
From there we'll determine if it's doable and try to sort something out.

Very nice, I was gonna say if your headed the other way to call in for one of the best pies in Aus :)
The ome headunit & the new one I have both have iso plugs, I've plugged them in, screen lights up, functions normally, you can see the cd timer ticking over but somewhere in the wiring the power from the aftermarket headunit isn't getting to the amp therefore, no sound.

Plenty of relaxing Pedro, but there's been no reading of the RAVE yet!
DB, I would have dropped in for a pie for sure! Especially if it's the best is Aus!
That's good that the two head units have the same connectors, it makes connections nice and easy.
What you'll need to check is that the speaker wires from the OEM connector line up with the new unit. They probably do, as I found the wiring when I did my HU pretty standard, but worth checking anyway.
What you'll also need to do is isolate the remote power line from the OEM connector to the amp, plus determine whether the amp is earthed from the head unit wiring or if it's independent.
Once you've separated the power and earth wires for the amp, you'll be able to hot wire it onto the acc switch, or indeed your new head unit might have a remote lead (usually blue) that you can use to power the amp as soon as the head unit is switched on.
I hope this all makes sense! Of course all of this advice is based on the majority of installs I've done on cars with factory amps, without amps and installing aftermarket amps. I can't imagine there would be anything too different with the LR setup.
I promise to consult the Rave and confirm things.
