G'day all, back again after my brake repair. The D2 is going well except for one damn thing....yep keys. I'm not a mechanic or a smart arse so please help. I have heard there are cheaper options as I simply cannot afford the key price of nearly $500.00.
If someone could help I will obviously reply with how it all went. WOuld be appreciated. A long time Disco owner and supporter
Cheers

see if you can get a blank key on ebay, then take it to your LR mechanic who will set it up. Is your alarm going off when you open the door with the key only? if so, the LR mechanic can "tune" your D2 so the key OR the button will open the door.
If it is just the case that is buggered on your fob, look here:
LANDROVER DISCOVERY 2 TD5 NEW KEY FOB REMOTE CASE (eBay item 250784797458 end time 06-Apr-11 19:44:34 AEST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/LANDROVER-DISCOVERY-2-TD5-NEW-KEY-FOB-REMOTE-CASE-/250784797458?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a63f05312)
Or Here:
Land Rover Remote Key Fob Discovery 2 Button Repair Pad (eBay item 200584164987 end time 06-Apr-11 20:13:01 AEST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Land-Rover-Remote-Key-Fob-Discovery-2-Button-Repair-Pad-/200584164987?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2eb3bf767b)
Otherwise, the blank keys do come up on ebay regularly and are a lot more cost effective.
Good luck

A series 1 steering lock assy will fit and apart from not being able to fit the key in to the fob is fine.

I could be wrong but have you tried a locksmith? I was under the impression they can program brand new keys for most cars for about $90-100.

The switch has broken away from the circuit board in the FOB.
I had a chat with Ross about it earlier. Unless it can be soldered back on, he's on the hunt for a new key.

I recommend buying a brand new key from OS. Try Britcar (UK) Ltd (http://www.brit-car.co.uk/)
This is where I bought mine. Much cheaper.
Also if you do a search on this forum under D2 you will find heaps of info. I'm pretty sure a topic comes up on keys every two weeks.

Mate get Ross to take his key to an electronics tech, like a bloke that fixes plasma TV's etc. I had one of these guys solder my button block back onto my fob. Good as new :)

As Discobaker has said, someone with a good soldering eye & he save a shyteload of money. I have repaired dozens of keys for this exact reason.
Goodluck.;)

How good is this site...all you blokes getting amongst it.
Firstly....yep have rang our local locksmith and pretty quick to back out when the going gets tough in term of oh..its a LR and we dont deal with them!
Rang an Electrical mob also. But didnt ask for just a solder job rather than scare the poor bloke and mention a key!
Andrew I will try your mob and see how it goes...will report soon.

Mine was broken exactly the same way so I bought a $40 soldering iron from Jacar and fixed it, been good now for 2 yrs and been dropped several times too. ....get this, I'd never soldered before:o
Since then its fixed numerous remote control cars, helicopters and scalextric stuff too :D.

Cheers Simon, just got back from a TV fix it man who took a closer look and said he will just put a new switch in it. Will look slightly different but will work well.
Now, how damn good is that! Just got to make sure I dont lock the car...then I will have to go throught the emergency proceedure.

+1 for this. Then find someone with a nanocom to program it for you for free.
