Are there any brands of DVD or CD players that are compatible with the factory fitted steering wheel audio controls on a 2003 Land Rover Discovery HSE?

Majority of latest cd/dvd units have steering wheel controls functionality. it's just a matter of getting the correct adaptor for it. I put a new clarion unit in a P38 and it was fairly simple - i deliberately got a clarion as the original head unit was also a clarion and the steering wheel adapter was easy to get. Perhaps best starting place is getting a head unit from the original manufacturer. i'm not to sure if it is an alpine or even a clarion head unit in a D2??? but that may be best place to start.

See link below which suggests Alpine dealer should be able to assist - fo that matter your local car stereo place should be able to help you: Alpine Electronics of Australia (http://www.alpine.com.au/showItem.php?item_id=202)

Out of curiosity do you know if you can retro fit a D2 steering wheel with steering controls to a RR CLassic.

cheers

I ended up getting a Clarion VRX486VD ( Clarion Australia | VRX486VD (http://www.clarion.com/au/en/products/2009/multimedia/multimedia_source_units/VRX486VD/au-en-product-pf_1172419833304.html) ) unit on sale for $385.00. However, it can't do steering wheel controls (only the new Clarions can). Being a large touch screen with full iPod control I'm still reasonably happy with it, but I will consider getting a steering wheel control compatible one at a later date...

Clarion have only just added it in recently - http://www.clarion.com/gb/en/support/cip/OEM/index.html

Aeropro do ir remote coverters so if the headunit has a remote control, the steering buttons can be made to work, have a look at their website

APUIR : UNIVERSAL IR ADAPTOR :: Harnesses (http://www.aerpro.com/list.php?pcode=APUIR&cat_name=harnesses&cat_no=10&product_name=UNIVERSAL+IR+ADAPTOR++&cat_sno=639)

Not really sure where you would mount the IR device though as it would need to be facing towards the headunit I imagine as far as I know IR works on line of site.

I looked at this before purchasing a RRS and it seems most of the upper end Pioneer, Alpine and Eclipse double DIN head units will fit in the RRS /D2/D3 dash's with a fitting kit. the Eclipse unit will handle all the steering controls without mods as they are asignable in the head unit, the others need adaptor modules but will still work.
Don't expect less the $2,000 for the work probably $2,500 complete but you get Bluetooth, Sat Nav, USB connections for a portable hard drive as well as a host of other fron / rear split DVD functions etc.
Check with a good dealer such as West Coast Hi Fi or Alberts and they will know most of the details, my guys offered to check the car out free of charge to proove it could be done.

Double DIN won't fit in a Disco 2. You'd have to do major dash surgery as there's a lot of metal behind the dash that would need to be removed to.

I ended up getting an Alpine unit for $300.00 with bluetooth, iPod and remote input. My remote adapter didn't work (second unit it hasn't worked on, so assuming that it is the problem now), so I've purchased a PAC unit now, but I still need to wire it in.
