Ok, the situation is: I'm planting around an acre of carrots, it's my first go at this so i'm starting small, although for me its big. What i want to know is who the hell do i sell them to? I don't want to muck around with farmers markets if i don't have to, i just want to load the lot onto my truck and sell em to one entity. If this is possible please let me know how to make contact with said entity or if you think i'm dreaming let me know and any and all advice from the experienced would be greatly appreciated.

road side stall, honor system.
or Value add turn them to juice and market that.
Safe way and coles will give you diddly squat.
Why Carrots, they are cheap as, bulkl for horse fodder.
Go parsnips, they cost their weight in gold every time I buy them.

Would it not have been a good idea to do some homework/research before planting?
Dave.

I'm a bit close to the road for that. I could always bury a couple of shipping containers and set up a monster wind turbine but i reckon selling the power would be easier and more profitable, still, i have definitely considered it:twisted:

Here is a crop budget from DSD (ne Dept Ag)NSW as a guide to the cost of the crop.
Just compare that to what you have been offered to see the profitability.
http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0006/126717/garlic.pdf
its old but they are only a guide.
Vic Dept Ag should also be able to help.

A relative of mine grows pineapples in QLD. His options for selling them (to give you an idea).
(1) Golden circle cannery (need to own shares in cannery, and can supply a maximum tonnage per share you own (per year). They have minimum size rules, and will fine you for each undersize pineapple you bring in.
(2) Rocklea fruit and veg wholesale markets - need to buy boxes, pack pines, transport them further. Plus you have to sell them with the tops on so you lose your planting material for next season, and have to buy it in (extra expense).
(3) Farmers markets etc - similar to (2), but more time consuming.

Your licence fees to the Drug Squad are enough to take the gloss off the bottom line.

Or you can grow it in a roof cavity, as some rellies of mine found out after they evicted the tenants from their rental property in FNQ. Of course if there are any leaks the ceilings will look pretty bad!!!

Ben,
Must be something about FNQ, roof spaces are the only dark dry spot with electricity...
years ago our first property in Cairns was a connected townhouse, the neighbours had the "roof access man hole" to a shared ceiling space - I noticed some light coming from the ceiling one night, so pulled a light fitting and peered in... I really wish i hadnt ;)
The neighbour was a scary fellow, my power bill never changed, I never looked up there again!

My comment was not intended to be funny. I was just asking what I thought was a reasonable question. I feel your personal attack at me to be very unfair and uncalled for.
