View Full Version : Headlining in a FL1

About a year ago the headlining in my Freelander 1 started to come away from above the windscreen and I managed to glue it back up. On doing some research I have been advised that eventually the whole headlining will give away.
I have just noticed it is starting to sag above the front passengers seat and have received a quote to replace the headlining of $360. Does this seem reasonable??
I know I could do it myself as some other Forum members have done with their Discoveries and save a few bucks, but I would rather avoid the hassle!!:)

As you have said yourself in order to avoid the drama's $360 is not too hard to swallow, I reckon that is fair enough as long as the person doing has a good rep and is willing to assure the work.

I have the same problem ........ $360 seems reasonable considering there is actually a bit of work involved in getting the headlining out to start with (plastic pillar covers, interior light assembly's, etc) then stripping the material off and once recovering is done re-fitting the repaired headlining.

I would suggest if your unsure of parting with that much money for a "cosmetic" job you try to at least get the headlining out your self and save a bit of $$$

$360 seems reasonable as I have spoken to another Forum User who spent $350 to have his Disco2 redone. So I guess it is a fair price to pay. I really don't want the hassle. But be warned, other owners of FL1's and Disco's of a similiar vintage....It WILL happen!!!:o:) I have had a look on my "RAVE" Disc and it could be done easy enough, but I would rather a professional do it!!

I't just happened to ours. It started with just the front and we managed to peel it back a bit and spray contact adhesive in in an attempt to re-affix. But fairly soon it all started to drop such that we will need to remove it to repair it. The foam backing has disintegrated on ours.

Thats what happens, apparently the heat from the sun over the years causes the thin foam lining to perish and disintegrate, the glue has nothing to hang onto and the lining begins to sag. I believe LandRover no longer use this method of attaching headlinings!!

Got my Freelander back from the Auto Trimmers today complete with a new headlining, it looks great. A couple of shades lighter than the original and I think it looks the better for it. Cost $330 and I think it was a very reasonable price to pay to have my Freelander looking A1!!!!:D

Where did you get it done? Mine hangs quite badly so I need to get it fixed but like you I don't the hassle of either doing it in the street or putting up with the in-laws :o

Cheers

Cheers G'Day mate, I had it done at Cardiff Motor Trimming, Unit 2/4 Nelson Rd Cardiff 2285. Ph 02 40761424. They only need the car for a couple of hours so you can make a day of it. The Cardiff shopping centre is only a short walk away, not to mention two clubs and a pub.:):) Cheers mate:D

I took the headlining and sunroof shade panel out of my P38A and took the card to a trimmer in Granville. He charged $110 to strip it and recover it and the sunroof.

I refitted them.

He'd do the lot if you prefer.
