Anybody know bee uteys Mobile number .?
Got a mates 94 D1 V8 just decided not to start at all .
Not getting output from the coil ,.
As usual the first thing I did was fit a Bim024 conversion which usually does the job .
Still absolutely nothing out of the coil . Coil is tested okay and manually fires fine. Its as if i Have no chopper action at all from the dizzy .
So how to troubleshoot the dizzy unit . Dizzy is a 35DM8 with the amp remote mounted next to the coil up under the LH radiator mount ,which is pretty well the standard arrangement on the 94 3,9V8 D1. Any way of independantly checking the hall effect in the Dizzy (Air gap looks good at .010) Yes there is a constant 12 volts at coil positive ,dropping to 11.5 whilst cranking .

Removed the rotor? .... Have you checked the "C" clip is OK in the dizzy .....

Are you sure the rotor itself is OK? .... Also, Inside the dizzy cap ... Check the carbon button in the middle is not missing

Thanks mike 90 RR , yeah really didnt look at the dizzy cap for too long
C clip is fine
Still im not getting anything out of the coil lead , as if is not triggereing . So with the coil lead pulled at the cap end and held near earth , still no spark ., but if i tap the negative terminal on the coil to earth , i can get a spark out of the coil lead . wish there was some way of measuring the pulses

I left you a PM.

Basically, just hook up a multi meter to the pick up wires. You will get a resistance reading that should be steady as you wriggle the connectors. When you spin up the dissy the voltage generated by the pickup will cause the meter output to jump about, depending on how fast you spin it. Slow spin will see a jump at each cylinder tooth. You should also be able to read AC voltages as you spin the dissy. I just tried a spare dissy and it reads 3300 ohms steady and up to 3V AC when spun.

Also check at the dissy proper as the pickup cable might have died. Any old twin flex will get it going, just route it away from the alternator and power leads.

Hi 400HPON Gas,

The engine cranks over fine but doesn't start.
Does the Disco have the factory fitted electronic immobilizer.
'
If it does it could possible be the "Spyder" box (deep inside the dash)

My 1996 V8i one day just wouldn't start, cranked over fine but nothing....checked distributor, coil, leads, changed the flat electronic thing at front near radiator and it turned out to be the immobilizer.
This spyder box is an Black rectangular box with a circiut board inside and a common fault is for a small section on the circuit board to burn out and wont let the vehicle start.

They are expensive to buy new but over here in Perth a couple of the landrover afternarket sellers have a replacement unit they have rewired to bypass the broken circuit.

Unfortunately you have to pull half the dash out to get to it as its located behind the radio near the firewall.

Thanks Baggy , thats one to check out as well . But as there is a constant 12V at the coil positive ,even when cranking , then the immobiliser , whatever it does , doesnt cut the ignition feed to the coil , well not on this 3.9 B series anyway .
It appears that the magnetic coil pickup is faulty , a $300 part . In the meantime Ill get a complete dizzy, amp ,Coil from Beeutey for a decent price .
Just wondering how this immobilizer works , does it cut ignition feed to the coil ? or perhaps does it ground out the Negative side ,so it doesnt pulse ? MMM interesting !!!

$300 for the pickup, your getting robbed, Last one I got was about $140 from memory. Amps are about $65.

yep , Rovacraft wanted $278 plus GST for the pickup only , wouldnt touch any LUCAS amp , theres a million Bosch 024's around for nix.

MR auto motive in Brisbane sell the pick up much cheaper, then. Mostly though the wires break due the vac advance pulling them tight/ flexing them. cut them off close and solder some new wire on if it is open cct. Bosch amps are about $25 new, if you have a remote mounted one.
