So March's first trip for the club was the first visit of the year to Levuka just outside of Woodenbong over the border into NSW.

We left around 6pm in convoy with Grimace and Jess in Wendy, Rod and Jacqui in Benda, and Sam and I in the 90.

We got to Beaudesert and grabbed some food for the hungry ones and headed on, arriving at Levuka at around 830pm. Went up and paid Rob and then headed up to camp.

This took slightly longer than you would expect as Grimace was putting in far more info than was required.

Car make: Wendy the Mazda
Colour: Faded gold with Silver
etc etc!

Handily our camp was easy to spot as Trav was already there and the fire was going! Also there already were Bullets in the Shorty s3, Camo and Zoe in their recently acquired L322, Grant and Mel with Elliot, and Dave (Busman)

We set up camp and sat down at the fire for a few beers. This turned into quite a late night; we finally headed off about 1am.

Still, wasn’t as late as for Guy who arrived on site at about 3am!

Saturday morning at camp:

So after breakfast, we headed straight out to the Dingo’s Run track with around 7 cars.

I was super cocky about this track, but it nailed me this time! damn it!!
The base of the climb:

As far as I got:

Everyone had a good go at the track, but no one made it up without a winch:

After getting all the cars through this section we headed abck to camp to collect the Saturday morning arrivals, in Stevo, Chris (CJT) and Ben and his dad (IsuzuRover)

We decided to run one large group out and head to rosemarys road. We got there, and it was blocked off with bunting, so we headed down a bit further to some of the slightly drier tracks for the next couple of hours:

Ben trying an unusual line:

Stevo in the same hole, on a different line, but a similar result:

Grant more of the same:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/799.jpg

Rod and Trav, managed to get through using plenty of revs!

After heading back around toward Havoc crossing, we came to a sharp little climb, which had a hugely deep rutted section. I managed to straddle this (luckily as I think if it has dropped in it may have gone over)

Everyone else had a go, but kept slipping down into the deep rut:

Dave:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/800.jpg

Ben however was the most spectacular! – some nice driving saw him reverse out of this!

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/04/527.jpg

Not to be deterred trying again!

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/801.jpg

Rod had a good attempt and nearly made it up the ruts:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/802.jpg

After seeing Rod get so close, I went down for a go at the ruts aswell – and made it up!:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/803.jpg

We then headed down through Havoc Crossing which was fairly drivable and we got nearly all the cars through. Some with a quick winch around the tree
Stevo:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/804.jpg

We then headed back for lunch.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/805.jpg

On the way back we passed Rob so I stopped and asked him regarding Rosemarys Road. He said it was pretty bad but we were more than welcome to have a try if we wanted J

Red rag to a bull springs to mind.

So after lunch we split up into 2 groups. Stevo, Chris, camo and guy took group 1 and went one way and the rest of us headed to Rosemarys road. Normally even if wet, a 40 minute drive!

The first descent was fine, through the stream bed which was very rocky and exposed on the exit and then left to the first climb. This was very washed out in the centre and covered in silt but loked driveable and we got up fairly easily.

Needing a little bit of assistance from the series recovery team:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/810.jpg

Once we were all at the top, we headed to the small stream corssing and were faced with a large fallen tree and some fairly large rocks:
Bugger:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/671.jpg

More of the same:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/811.jpg
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/812.jpg

The last few cars drove it easily after we had built up some rocks. Trav and John had no drama.

After this we hit the large rutted hill. This goes up about 250m in ruts then the final 100 or so is straight up a smooth surfaced section.

We got up ok, but Ben got hung up on the Salisbury. After a bit of digging, he got up. Next was Rod, then Dave who also got up. Penultimate car was John in the Shorty. He made it through the ruts and about 1/3 of the way up the smooth faced section when the car stopped with a backfire and wouldn’t restart.

This turned into a major recovery mission which involved Dave reversing back down after we had anchored the series, then attaching a strap between both, then winching them both up to the top.

This probably took about an hour. At the top it still wouldn’t start so after some more investigation Ben spotted that the HT lead was of the distributor. Putting it back on, and it started straight away! Doh.

Last car up was Trav.

Anyway it was now about 6pm so we headed back to camp for a break!

So Sunday dawned. John had to leave early, and a couple of others were still getting ready so a group of us decided to have a look at Rock and Roll gully.

We got the entire group through the first section, where we stopped to have a walk through the second section. This was far more eroded than normal several trees were down, and about 2/3rds of the way along was a huge rock blocking the track about 4ft up, and a hugely undercut hole.

We decided that we may be able to drag this down into the creek and get around it so I headed in.

Ben removing a tree (axe use 1)

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/816.jpg

Nasty side slope with a stump that got very close to the door. Grimace had to kick this out when we slid to about 1” from it:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/817.jpg

More removals!

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/828.jpg

After this the group at exit 1 could nip back to the main track easily. We had a large fallen tree down that couldn’t clear so we had to take a detour which involved some incredibly deep rutted muddy sections. (and a lot of bats!)

We then headed back around toward camp:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/829.jpg

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/830.jpg

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/831.jpg

Guy decided to try a special line, only for him!:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/832.jpg

This was made worse by the fact the exhaust got blocked! Anyway we sorted that out and everyone else got up with some nice driving and line selection.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/833.jpg

When we got back to camp, we discovered that Stevo’s car was running, but all the doors were locked. Grimace, Ben, Stevo and I think a few others had a really good go at breaking in but couldn’t quite manage it. They did have a good try though.

Unfortunately however the inevitable had to happen.
(Axe use 2)

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/834.jpg

After that we al packed up ready to head home.

Packed:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/835.jpg

Plan for a few of us was to grab some lunch in Beaudesert, but the trip had one last bite for us. We were driving along the main road in convoy in 5th gear at about 100k when the revs went through the roof with some bad noises. Turns out the layshaft broke in the gearbox :(

Using 4th got us into beaudesert, but the box didn’t sound happy so we called RACQ. Spent 30 mins or so eating lunch with the group then headed back up to the car. Thanks to Grimace and Jess who waited with us until the truck arrived. Handily we had stopped outside a large grass area so Grimaces RC car was brought out to play :)
The end of our trip:

Was a great trip. We really enjoyed it and hope everyone else did. Thanks all. Was some great driving by everyone.

Thanks for a great weekend guys and the boys had a great time covered in mud and falling in the creek.

I was more than happy with where I managed to go in the my stocker (compared to what you are all driving).

Cant wait for more trips, especially after I get the CDL in.

Should be able to put some more pictures up during the week.

Well, I don't know if I am going to do the following again....spend week in Sydney on sales conference, get home Friday night.....pick up kids...get home....pack.......get up 5 hrs later........drive to Levuka......un pack and set up camp.

The following I will happily do :)............get dirty, drive great tracks......hang with great people......drink around a camp fire.............but then back to what I won't do.

That is........leave car running whilst airing up.....with children in the car......who I tell to get out and find that as the last door shuts..............the last door locks. So with car packed, motor running....can't get into car. Spend hr + with excellent effort by Grimace trying to get the latch to pop......to no avail.

Out comes axe......smash window...... :(........and clean up shattered glass all through the car. A thanks to those that helped and hung about........big thanks to Grimace, Ben and Brother Rod for their assistance in cleaning/ taping......etc

:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

:clap2::Rolling::Rolling:(Yeah trust me)
Grimace & Pete were taking the mickey out on me about the CDL only that morning.
I Have not forgot to engage in over 12 months, so what do l do, a couple of hours later forgot to use the CDL:D
Grimace runs up the track, Pete Pete Pete, Dave forgot to engage his CDL:o
Theres no secrets with Grimace !!
Damn Damn Damn, now l will never hear the end of it:p:2up:
Had a top weekend, and really the enjoyed the various conditions.
Really great crowd of people on this trip, and enjoyed their company.
I have to say that all participants drove very well, with no real damage to report.
Ten out of 10 Ben (Izuzurover) for giving 100% on every track.
The axe also came in handy for about 20 different tasks:D

Okay, time for my long-winded report. Already had a few beers so this could get intersting, apoligies for the typos in advance :D

Started off at around 3PM leaving Jimboomba, trip to the park was uneventful even in the bullet (was playing silly buggers a few days prior but hopefully I have sorted this out :)) but arrived at the park around 3.45 PM QLD time none of this daylight saving crap  Paid at the office, had a chat to Rob as per usual who had been telling em that they had about 3 floods through the property over the new year and it was pretty accurate once we started to do some of the tracks later on.

I was again the first to arrive, got the gear up fire going and beer flowing not nessacarily in that order but not long after, John (bullets) turned up and started to set up camp. A little while after, Dave (Busman) arrived and set up camp who was flying solo for the weekend, put the gear up and got into the beers as per normal :D. Grant (presto) wasn't too far behind then Pete, Camo, Grimace (in a bloody Mazda :rocket:) and co arrived along with Rod so we had the crew here not too long after at several stages. Beer flowed, insults went to and thro and the odd possum joke aimed at yours truly but all in good humour, about midnight it was off to bed (hopefully no hangovers the next day :(). Guy turned up at sparrow fart, was taking a slash and heard you pull up at about 2:30AM

Saturday dawned with some not so great weather. Overcast and humid, it is March after all but not too uncomfortable but this wasn't going to ruin our fun. After another dunga breakfast of grease it was time to hit the tracks all keen as mustard to get the Land Rovers dirty. Just before we got going, Ben (isuzurover) and his dad arrived, Chris (CJT) and co along with Stevo (Stevo68) with his four kids in tow who stayed behind to set up camp, Ben quickly got his gear up and was keen to get out and play so one group formed. Camo and crew jumped into some spare seats amongst the group and enjoyed not wrecking there L322 and us idiots breaking **** :(

Anyway, off we went. First challenge for the day was dingos hill, remaned by me 'Simpson hill' because Pete the cheeky ****er is the only one who can conquer it  Well, let me say he wasn't so lucky this time around, otu with thw winch and the 90 was up (gotta love a hi-mount winch) in no time. We all had to break out the winch apart from Rod, who had not fitted his yet (slack *****) but Pete was generous enough to get his out again and assist Rod. The lack of pics of me answers the question I was up the back as TEC so I got the brunt of the track all weekend, I'n not whinging I like it that way and it works as a good excuse of my dodgy driving at times

We decided to retreat back to camp to collect Stevo for the next run so back to camp, a quick break but back into it again and off we went

Anyway, Dingos track (Simpsons hill) was done for this trip anyways so off to the front section of Levuka. All open areas, pretty easy going although a mud puddle provided us with a challenge. Ben got his 110 County sideways somewhat (missed how it ended up that way) but with some assiatance the 110 was back in the right direction once again. Us boofheads had to have a play, the bullet at 5000 rpm is symthony to the ears

Off again, another challenging hill, little dipper. With recent rains, this was not a doddle like in previous trips it presented quite a challenge. Ben decided to get the 110 up on a precarious angle to near tipover but Ben being a pretty experienced driver was able to right his 110 back on all 4 wheels but irt was impressive. Rod couldn't help himself so it was his turn. Several attempts but failed. My turn, close after 5 attempts but again I lost the abttle. Pete was the only bugger who made the climb, maybe back on even score after failing 'Simpson hill' hey Pete

Okay, time for havoc crossing, still one of the best tracks at levuka. All and sundry had a go, even Stevo in Smokey had a crack. The tree roots were always a PIA on this track and the tree with bark missing was always an indication that some people have got a bit too carried away in the past. I provided once again the entertainment with a full noise attack on the tree roots and topped off with a powerslide fully locked. After filling some peoples undies with **** it was time to move on (I was in control of course, the tree was my buffer ).

Back to camp for some lunch and a beer or two (not too many, still have some more driving to do ), Camo provided us with some shade for the early afternoon sun (or lack of) but it was still bloody hot all the same thankyou very much but all helps. I was starting to hit sleep mode sitting there but it was self-motivation time and Rosemarys was the next mission. Pete had asked Rob if we could have a crack, said it was closed but knock yourselves out so we did. Rosemarys is not too hard fot the most part, a bit technical but nothing too bad. This time around it turned into a hard track, too nearly 3 hours to get 7 vehicles through . The first section had rutted out badly but we got over that (the washout at the top of the hill allowed you to turn the rangie around on the spot with the rear maxi on :D). Next section we had a tree exposed so this made it a bit harder than the norm, but all conqured it with some track building but John and I done it easier than most as the track building was already done.

The next section of Rosemarys was a long hill, not steep but slippery as all hell. By the time I got there it was not looking good, the 5000 rpm approach wasn't working (too much wheelspin) so it was a less sedate 3000rpm which was working apart from an offending tree root close to the top  Anyway, had to get the winch out (the only person let me say :() but all good and up the top. The enext section was real pucker teritiory, dowm Norms loop. This was not a pleasant downhill section, John in the Series 3 was worried that the vehicle would spin around being a SWB and lightweight so Grimace, Dave, Grant and myself (after a little while I was concerned so I got off my arse and had a look :o) lowerd John down. Pete had mentioned that it wasn't too bad but after a few vehicles had gone down it was downright dangerous. Grant and I made the smart choice to take the 'usual' track around norms loop, through the mudhole although we did some slight mods to Grants exhaust as the end muffler was slightly bent going through the mudhole at a 90 degree angle to the ground, then fell off  All for the good as it sounds like a V8 now

Time was getting on and back to camp we went. I raced to the showers as I was coverd in mud and I didn't have a torch with me but all good so all showerd it was beer and campfire time. Pete and Sam had collected a big stack of firewood for yours truly to burn so that started in earnest, between cooking my dinner that is as well as drinking a couple more beers but all turned out okay (beer killed the taste in any burnt bits in my pasta :D). Once again, beer flowed, the possum jokes came to the fore and now I know why Rod called his D3 'Sharleen' (anyone who has seen the movie 'full metal jacket' will get the joke ). It was gettinhg on so some of us headed off to bed although ben had fallen asleep in front of the fire much to Stevos delight (more pics for when the moment arises :D)

Sunday arrived, once again the weather was not looking too flash but that was not to stop us mere mortals from having a bit of wheeling fun  Breakfast was consumed, off we went. camo and John had other plans so had to abort the trip along with Stevo (they should call the Oz tent the 3 hour tent in your case :D:D :wasntme:) so we had a good 7 or so vehicles with us in the one group. Rock 'n' Roll gully was the first port of call. generally not too hard, the exit from the creek is the hardest part well that was about to change. The creek with recent rains had washed out a lot of the rubble that held it in place, one rock had to be moved with a which due to the fact that it would have had some major dmage to the doors on all of us who attempted it. trees were also a issue but Ben had an axe on hand which made sort-of light work on the fallen branches (not for the axeman though :(). Once all obstacles were moved, Pete went in for the kill and conqured it with no dramas. Ben in the 110 made light work of it surprisingly with the longer wheelbase I would have though it would have been a bit too much of a challenge but all good. Dave's turn, apart from some track building it was all good but yours truly made harder work of it than all once again. Due to the fact I don't have offset rims I was rubbing the already dented door up again the offending rock (the was off-camber and the rock so the door was leaning on it ) but after some careful guidence it was all good (apoligies if I got a tad grumpy, 4 differnt sets of instructions it was a bit hard for it all to sink in :(). All through, Grant and Chris in the d2 with no CDL and diff locks retreated up the escape route. Now the only issue was getting back to the rest of the group, a tree had blocked track 2 so it was onto track 3 through the mud puddle and a couple of intersting off-camber ones to track 1 and pick up the rest of the crew. All back in one group, around the fence line track and onto another track (I think it's was Rufus run, not sure). Nothing too hard although Guy decided to get his Rangie in a precarious poisition at one point on the hill (need to get out and do some real 4WDing again Guy, those easy trips are making you soft :(). There was a deep rut to have a crack at but after a couple of goes I had to take the sook track, not happy .

To the playground we went, the hills have been washed out a bit since last time and the lack of traffic was evident. At one point, I was going backwards with the whel spinning forwards at a rate of rpm's but had another go all good (need to lift off the loud pedal a bit more, just that V8 synthony is sooooo good :twisted::twisted:). All had a go at the hills and most made it look like a doddle but it was getting on a bit in the day so retreated back to camp and pack up for the trip home.

Whilts all this was non-eventful, Stevos got hiself in a picke (well his kids had) with the engine ruinning and the bonnet up so that he could pump up his tyres, the keys were locked in   After Grimace did some McGyver tricks to no avail, it was out with the axe which had come in handy many occasions on this trip to break a window much to Stevos dislike (was nearly crying afterwards) but was able to get back into Smokey and get the doors open once again (forgot how much that glass shatters, Grimace spent a fair while cleaning it up :()

Anyway, it was on the road not long after, a stop-off at KFC at Beauey for me and then the whole 20 min drive to Jimboomba and I was home.

Great weekend, one of the best trips for a while for our club and good to see a few new faces. Grant deserves a mention because after spending the $$$ on your D1 you are not pussy-footing around with it. Also to Grimace who showed up in a bloody Mazda POS, you need to get fluffy out of purgatory and out on trips again

Funny you say that Tim! ....I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the leeches!!? ....Jacqui was quite impressed with those!!
To be honest, they must have been Dunga spec leeches, as they had a massive army that tried to eat us all!! Did anyone get a pic of one? ....I got attacked 3 times - found 2 in my socks on the morning of day 1, and then one between my toes later that day!!

I was going to write a trip report, but who can possibly follow Trav's MASSIVE effort!!?? ....I'll just post some pics as soon as I get them uploaded!

You should have seen her run (if that's what you call it) when there was a little spider during the creek run. Last seen heading straight for the safety of Rods Rangie - not sure why she'd assume there are no critters in there, isn't it normally the other way round, you see people bolting out of cars generally due to a spider inside.

Don't know what CJT's kids thought - it was pretty funny. :wasntme:

Think she chose an interesting trip to try out camping and 4wding - just a tad different to the series trip:twisted:

They thought it was quiet amussing, they where trying to find all the spiders after that.

Then Blair proceeded to swing from the vines over the creek that quickly deposited him the water.

I think the boys brought half the water from the creek and mud from camp home with us in the back seats.

I certainly had some looks today driving the kids to school and through the centre of Brisbane with the D2 still covered in mud and the rear bar smashed up more than usual (lots of tape currently holding it together and the lights in).

At least it was the only 4wd at school that actually looked properly used for what it is meant for.

Gotta say a MASSIVE THANKS to all those that helped get the shorty around the tracks (Grimace, Dave, Grant, & Trav huge effort guys) and all of the Levuka Tug of War team - much appreciated!!
Once again Levuka proves to have a little bit everything that keeps you coming back and was toped of by sharing it with quality people.
The old shorty although being stuck a couple of times still gets around tracks pretty well & is always entertaining to drive - a wired down coil lead & a front locka hmmm!!?

Great pics & trip report guys
Sorry to hear about layshaft Pete - bugger of a job!!

Thanks again to all

Thanks all that was a great trip. Was nice to finally get to use the rangie for what its been setup for, well when its not at Fraser or on series trips. Yes Trav its been a while.

Like Stevo - things not to do for future trips - leave Brisbane after midnight when you have 2 hours of driving. At least the tent is easy to setup. Not sure if I would have been any better getting up at 5am to do the drive down on the saturday morning, cause I'm not really a morning person:). I do get up in the am just not 5am.:p

Finally decided that it was time to get the car out of touring mode and remove the sill tanks so that I actually had some decent clearance under the sills and could go in Group 1 instead of Group 2. Part of the reason for the late leaving time was because there were lots of things that needed doing before I was happy with the car. I managed to achieve them all:D. I probably shouldn't have procrastinated as much as I did, then I would have got there sooner, but at least there was no traffic.

1st track of the trip got to use the winch properly, not just for moving stuff around the yard:twisted:. As mentioned the leeches were everywhere until the Bushmans repellant was brought out, think it was Zoe who said to spray it on your shoes, clothes and yourself of course - no more leeches.

The next track after collecting the others from the camp ground, Presto's stuck in the mud hole where Ben spun it, I start to reverse back a bit as the ground is very slippery to give him some extra space to get out. I really should have looked in all mirrors (I blame lack of sleep for this one) - toot crunch - bullbar 1, lense 0 :(:o. One of those you get out expecting the worst, then can't see any damage - thank goodness.

After lunch I went TEC for Group 2 - for our adventure up to the playground. Stevo up the front heads round the right hand side of a log ... and stops with a rooster tail of muddy water, about the same time Camo fails to proceed along the same track. Chris (CJT) was able to assist Stevo get out, but Camo in his recently aquired Rangie managed to reverse out and take a different line.

When we arrived at the playground there was already a Toyota and Jeep there. Only the jeep was trying stuff. We all had a play on various options. Stevo managed to get some good air under his front wheel - it looked unnerving from where I was watching, so no idea what it was like in the car. I had a chat to the Jeep bloke who said he only got about as far up the left hand track as Stevo did - so I though well there's a challenge I can't let go. Diffs locked - straight up first time. Wish the same could be said for the middle slope, got to the top but in a similar effort to Trav wheels going forward but the car was sliding back down.

Back to Camp for showers and food, then to wait the return of group one - really started to wonder if they had done damage as they seemed to be out for ages.

Sunday morning the creek run - I had trouble walking it. I did the first section, then opted out of the second. I'm sure the car is equiped to do it, but I didn't want to risk panel damage. Watching the others was impressive, travelling in the back of Travs rangie for the second part made me glad I didn't attempt to drive it. mmm side angles:eek: and then the mud on the way out:twisted:.

Chose a couple of interesting lines as per the photos, found a nice hole to drop the rear wheel in and scare the **** out of myself, then buried the exhaust in the dirt which snuffed the motor. Thanks to Grimace, Ben, Pete and Dave for the assistance in getting out of that one:eek:

I wonder if Levuka want there mud back:o

Yes - thanks for that suggestion Dave... my ears are still ringing...

Actually I walked straight up to the car, I was still a few feet away from the window...

Jacqui was a great sport - and you should have seen the huge grin on her face at the top of every hill (not sure if she was happy or just relieved though).

On the subject of crayfish though - good thing I let it go - seems like it was a rare species that has just recently been described!

Ok so first up I just want to mention that I made it on this trip!
I may have been in Wendy the wagon but I made it!
I may have been a lot less organise then some but I made it!
I may not have had a 4wd to wheel but I made it!
Did I also mention that I MADE IT! :)

Thanks to Pete for inspiring me to get out on a number of clubs trips that I failed to attend I was not missing this one. So after realising on thursday night that it was Friday the following day I had a bit of a panic attack, but all was good come friday evening when Jess & I left our small apartment, heading north to Pete & Sams place.

You see Pete had to cram his small 35" tyres into the back of Scruffy and was running out of room fast. But have no fear Wendy to the rescue :D
I had left enough room to fit Pete and Sams esky into the back of my wonderful wagon and after a quick yarn our convoy of two was now three, as Rod and my wife were already present and ready to roll, Benda style

The trip to the park was pretty cruisy Scruffy lead the charge and hammered off into the distance, Wendy maintained a steady pace and Benda just cruised. It wasn't until I got to the unsealed roads that I realised just how bad the suspension (or lack of) in Wendy was.
But I knew Wendy had it in her to get me to my destination so I kept on keeping on and we arrived at our destination in one peice, just!

As we were one of the last to arrive we were greeted by a warm fire (thanks Trav) and some rather relaxed members who seemed to be enjoying the time away from the big smoke. Was a rather peiceful night few beers and slowly as the numbers deminished. Dave and myself decided to retire from the night at about 2am as if we socialised any longer we could have ended up in the same tent (I am certain that's what Dave was thinking :p).

Saturday 7:00am was my reboot time, and the first thing to be done was help Pete with his little tyres so he could enjoy the days wheeling to be had. Changing tyres is a horrible task, and I don't understand why we opt to do it to ourselves, so my theory was more hands, arms, legs and stuff like that make light work!

I'll try fill in some gaps and won't dwindle too much on what has already been said, so here is a quick list of highlights of the trip for me.

As Jess and I were not willing to show everyone up in Wendy, I rode shotgun with Trav for the day and Jess was rollin with CDL Dave.... music time!

They see me rollin
They laugin'
As we wheelin they tryin to catch me ridin CDL Less
Tryin to catch CDL Dave
Tryin to catch CDL Dave
Tryin to catch CDL Dave
Tryin to catch CDL Dave
My TDI so loud
I'm forgettin'
They hopin that they gon catch me ridin CDL Less
Tryin to catch CDL Dave
Tryin to catch CDL Dave
Tryin to catch CDL Dave
Tryin to catch CDL Dave

Got Him!!!

The wheeling for today was sticky, stinky, and slippery, a hanful of times vehicles were simply slip sliding away.... que the music!

Slip sliding away, slip sliding away
You know the nearer to the top, the more you slip sliding away!

Me riding shotgun with Trav was like heaven, you know underneath that big pussom loving skin is a really genuine down to earth guy :p
No seriously the little 3.5 was music to my ears.... talkin of music, here is a little song I wrote, you might want to sing it note for note.

We have
The chance to turn the 3.5 over
We can drive what we want to drive
We gotta make the top, before we get much colder

We're on someone's camera
We're on someone's ipod
How long can maintain traction
Down the slippery Levuka mud!

Chorus:
Bullets the voice, try and replicate it
Make a noise and make it clear
Oh-o-o-o, whoa-o-o-o!
We're not gonna wheel in silence
We're not gonna get stuck here
Oh-o-o-o, whoa-o-o-o!

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/622.jpg
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/623.jpg

Ok band time is over!

By this time we had battled the mud and all it had to throw at us. Levuka is home to gangs of ninja leech, which slowly sucked the life from each of us. The girls confronted this gang with DEET, and I got physical with a few of the members (of leech that is)... They were tough buggers...
BUT WE WERE TOUGHER (except maybe Jacqui, who was a bit of a wuss)!

We pulled hard!
We played hard!
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/03/624.jpg

Direct highlights for me were taking part in the recovery team for John in the mighty S3, lowering it via 3 straps a total of 50m down the slippery exit track.
The creek run on sunday. Track modifying is always exciting for me.
The sound of the V8s
And some others... but the best part of my trip was also the scariest :D
You see as I have a habit of scaring Jess when I feel the need, I decided to sneak up on her while she sat in Busmans car awaiting the verdict of an upcomming section of track. A couple of wrigly fingers and a snarl through the passenger window saw Jess return the fright of her life, only to be followed closly by a lady like shreek from Busman... Sorry Dave but your reaction was so gold! It even gave me a fright. Glad you didn't suffer a heart attack. :)

All in all another excellent weekend, big thanks Trav, Dave, John & Guy for allowing Jess & I to stink out your cars.
Thanks again to Dave for the beers, and Ben also for a beer. It was much appreciated (now I sound like an alcoholic), I really did need it!
I would also like to say thanks to all the kids, as they are all so well mannered and make camping a true family event. Even if they lock keys in cars causing Stevo to take to his rear qtr glass with the blunt end of an axe :p.
Thanks to Camo & Zoe for the shade.
Thanks to Ben again and his father for the axe and the shovel.
Thanks to Rod and my wife for nothing :p
Thanks to Grant & Mel for bringing Duffy out and givin her the attention she deserves (even if she is a disco)
Thanks to Chris and co. for having a go and getting right amongst it all.
Thanks to Stevo and Guy for taking Group 2 around the park.
Thanks again to Trav for his role as TEC
And Lastly big thanks to Pete & Sam, for not only being a fantastic trip leading pair, but also for the time put in prior to all trips organising them and the calendar.

This one's just for Dave! :)

This amazing thing happened for me on the first little section - I engaged the CDL and got up first time!! ....I was amazed after watching Dave struggle to get up there.... :p

Once Dave put the CDL in and got up the first section, he made the main section look easy :)
