Mate of mine has a 2H powered (?!) 47 Series. He was considering bolting a turbo on, now he has decided to sell it and buy something else. Possibly a 79 Series with 1HD-FTE power. Or an Amarok.

Yea HJ47 will be a 2H
HDJ79 would be the best thing to roll out of Japan, none of the inherent problems....aside from a reverse cut front lux diff, but its in 4.1:1 not 4.3:1 like the N/A 79 which is alot weaker again.....also with the weak gearbag

I wasn't questioning 2H, I was questiong power. :p

Yea, but seeing as though you think a rover V8 is an ampley powered beast:D
This thing has 7 psi and approx 630C Preturbo EGT's, so a very safe tune, got him to drive it, thinks its great......I think its still terrible:angel:
But alas, just a little more poke to tow a camper was needed

My current build 4.2 stroker will do in my Rangie, but the 355 Holden I am building for my WB should have real grunt.

4.2 are a nicer engine than 4.6, must be a better bore x stroke ratio
Stick the 355 in the RR;)
The big single turbo LS1 the ute:D

We can all dream!
One big $$ gearbox is enough for me at this stage, I am keeping the RR a bit more realistic given it is a daily driver.

With enough HP you'll only need a 2 speed, powerglide:D

And I was only telling SWMBO yesterday that the best three 4WD diesels to come out of Japan were the TD42(T), 4BD1(T) and 2H.

Sounds a lot like a stock TD42T.
The only downside will be on hot days, too much heat soak from no intercooler will find him dropping gears trying to find some more poke.
Nice, neat installation Matt.

I still think 1HD-FTE is the pick, slightly higher on the fuel consumption then a 4BD1T though
2H not so much, 12HT though

Yea, about as slow as a stock TD42Ti too
Thats what I told him, its at the safe end of performance, without spending money, needs an intercooler, the intake pipe to the manifold gets hot as, where as my water to air the intake side is cold as cold aluminium to touch, hot on the turbo side

Oh, the 2H has a butterfly, which has 2 hoses that operate fuelling on the injector pump via vacuum, it has 10"s of maifold vacuum on deceleration:eek:

Actually a lonely old 100km drive home from shopping and the flicks if you don't talk :D
and this was just after the TD42T stuck us up with a bad batch of fuel and no tools to pull the thimble filter :(

That's why it's not worth spending huge money on a 2H turbo set up. I looked at the AXT kit, then factoring in boost compensation, proper intercooling etc it becomes a $3,500-4,000 job. It's still an inefficient IDI lump. The same money could see a 12HT in, not sure about gearboxes though.

A good customer of mine loves those engines.
He offered me one of his 1HD engines the other day when i told him I was after a 4BD1T.
He has a damned high regard for the 4BD1 too, told me not to bother with a SITEC "try and get one of those mechanical girls"
He runs 6BD1's in two older Isuzu trucks and loves them, they've been bullet proof so far.
He's given me a contact in Sydney for a 4BD1T, might take a little while but will get what i want apparently.
He also told me another local fitted a 4BD1 to a Land Cruiser apparently, goes well too.

What's not to love?
Just out of interest can you get a six pot into a Fender engine bay? I've never had a good looksee but since a six was easy enough into LWB series surely it'd go into a fender?

I can't see why a six pot wouldn't fit, look how much space is in front of a 200Tdi.
Richard, my customer suggested shoehorning in a 6BD1.
At least it'd be smoother than a 4 :lol2:

You know you want to Rick ;). 6BD1T would be awesome. There are guys in the US who have fitted 6BTs, so it must be possible.

He paid $200 for the turbo kit, close to $600 to fit, with new gaskets, Pyro, oil etc and tuning was free, I just burned his diesel hooning around for a few days

Hmm - maybe I can put a 6BD1T in the 110, then I will have a 4BD1T for the IIA ;)

Oh no, what have I suggested
A bloody 4BD1 is heavy enough, I'd need to pinch some springs off one of the coal carriages that go past here to support a 6.
At least it'd be a diesel that'd sound half decent :D

Just fit the dual coil 130 springs up front as well!!!
Or air springs ;)
