Hi there. Two overland travellers are here in my city, and today they went for an under car inspection, finding there is a gap in one side of the gearbox-flywheel, like one of the bolts were loosen. Maybe photos can help to understand:
This is the place in the car:

Where the paper goes is the gap, we could introduce a 75g paper bended with no problem. The other side of the gearbox is ok, no paper can get into.

Please tell us if this is normal or is a big problem, they have to follow travel to US, with no Land Rover workshop in the middle. Thank you in advance.

I would suspect the bellhousing bolts are coming loose. I have seen it before in older landies.

Get a strong pry bar and see if you can get the gap to change.

If the LandRover owner cannot get the gearbox or engine removed to retighten the bolts/nuts in your city then a couple of strategically placed holes with a hole saw may allow access to the loose fittings to nip them up a bit.

thats a problem....

you will need to loosen and then tighten all the bolts if you can, you may find that when it was removed previously that the lower bolts have stripped out the housing (from bad procedure or overtightening in the first place)and are doing nothing other than looking pretty.

if thats the case then the box or the motor needs to be moved enough to allow access with a helicoil kit
