Well it was one of those jobs you always promise yourself to do!....
Land Rover Discovery V8 Year 2000, 125K. Lived a good life for its first 80K then we got her!!!

Thought I heard the chirpping of a very small and weak cricket....

Left it a bit longer and not many k's...

Had a look at the front prop shaft and noticed the slightest glimmer of shiny metal on an end cap where the circlip had managed to rotate....

Mmmm yup a job after nights!.. Just driving up the road at a snails pace due to roadworks and convincing myself .... It will be okay the prop shaft fairies will have fixed it in my sleep!... Silence became a Chirp which became an instant screech... Straight to Neutral...

A muffled bang....

Oh yeah the double carden failed.... Fortunately not a dimple in anything...

SO the moral of the story get under those trucks....

Now split the shaft and splines u/s also so.....

I want a HD Shaft with greaseables (lots of)..... Any thought who/where and for best price...

Plenty of posts / information / advice on this subject.

Try the 'SEARCH' function and/or look in 'The Good Oil' - http://www.aulro.com/afvb/good-oil/61452-d2-prop-shaft-secrets-ujs-double-cardan-joints.html

Sounds like you were lucky it happened at low speed.
With current exchange rates, probably worth looking at the US (Tom Woods .........I think) - see posts/recommendations by 'Slunnie'

No idea for Mt Gambier but being a 2000 model at least you'll be able to remove the shaft, lock the CDL with a 10mm spanner and drive on the rear shaft (carefully) to get you to a repair place.

Put a disco 1 prop shaft in. Put some new heavy duty uni joints in. Cheaper and it will last.

No need to be too cautious, runs just fine at any speed with front shaft out and CDL locked for as long as your like. But don't go rock crawling!

Went straight to Tom WOODS via 'google'!!!

Spoke to Troy and Josh in deepest Utah.. Was considering their stockist over here BUT they were closed and no guarantee they had one on the shelf and the price I saw listed on a google hit was nearly as bad as L.R...... And time wise wont be any different delivery!

Both chaps couldn't have been more helpful... to the point they really wanted me to try and confirm that the old one was sooo dead before I spent my money... However looking at the prices on centre bearing, UJ's before I figure in hassle and what to do about spline damage and still not having a satisfactory greasing option I just ordered one....

I bought a Tom Woods front shaft for ours a couple of months ago.

I spoke to Tom, and he was happy to supply direct, but he suggested to speak to Jeep Konnection, his oz stockist and they had 7 at the time.

I ordered one from them and had it within 2 days.
