Hey guys,

I've had the water in the fuel warning light flash on very briefly a couple of times over the last week. I've been buying my fuel at the Shell / Coles Express on old cleveland road, coorparoo in Bris. Am I getting dodgy fuel?

Is there any thing I need to do about this? What probs can it cause?

Cheers

Wil

No idea. Maybe I better read up on fuel filters at the good oil! :D

At the inside rear right wheel you will find your fuel filter and water sensor. Remove the Electrical plug and then put a bucket /container under the filter.
Gently unscrew, anti clockwise, the black plastic sensor until fuel starts to drain into the container. Stop after about a cup and see if there is water in the fuel. Water will collect at the bottom. If you find water drain the filter completely.Probably not a bad idea to change the filter though not absolutely neccessary.
Check and clean the plug. Refit the sensor (ensure o-ring is in place) and then prime the vehicle as per owners manual.

These sensors are quite quick and sensitive to respond and it is not uncommon for them to flash intermittently. If it stays on you definitely need to take further action.

If it is only flashing intermittently it is not a great concern, drain it at your leisure.
If the light is staying on you should drain it as soon as you can.
I notice a few people that dont unscrew the sensor or change the filter usually end up with a stuffed thread on the sensor.
End result of this is no fuel and a mess.
Good idea to carry a suitable 8mm bolt to plug the hole as back up.

intermittent flashing of the water in fuel light is just another sweet & endearing example of why we all love the D2. Have looked for water but never found it, yet it keeps flashing.

The later D2a had the water sensor light dissabled in the relevant ECU from the factory due to the gremlin that kept flashing the light when there never was water in the filter.

I replaced the fuel filter less than 1000km ago and have had it flash on twice in the mean time.
