Just had my auto transmission fitted with the steel pan and new fluid etc by AutoMac in Myaree, $620 runs like a dream, much smoother and shifts back to barely noticeable.

Hi Richard, Yes they do good work there, that's where i had mine done. Not sure why but it cost me $825.00????? Anyway auto feels heaps better after the change. I've been told that with the faultmate you can delete the learned setting and reset to the factory default settings and the changes get even smoother, amazing really as they are dam smooth after the service.
cheers

Maybe they did a full flush on yours?

Hi Caver, no they talked me out of the flush, i was told that it wasn't necesary unless you are starting to have serious problems with the auto. However following your advice i made sure they used the correct ZF oil, they are after all the ZF agents here in Perth. I think they may have done a full service though now that i think about it. Not sure what that would invove on a gearbox that is supposed "sealed for life" :D

Sealed for the life of the warranty.

Mine was the single flush with the ZF oil

The bill was $665 not $620.

Steel pan kit $350
8 litres Lifeguard 6 Fluid $210
Harness plug sleeve $20
Labour 1 hour $85

I am happy with that.

Maybe that they have got the labour time down now that they have done a few.
As it was I had oil leaks on my driveway so I took it back and they replaced a faulty pan gasket - no charge

Does the RRS use the same auto transmission as the D3?

Yes. V8 D4/RRS may be different?

What is the advantage over the plastic one? - I understood the steel one does not have the filter in it that provides a level of protection to the gearbox.

Just ease and cost of future servicing. Steel pan has a separate filter wheras the orig is one piece plastic. Orig also rquires mounting bolts to be undone or loosening of the valve block.
Steel one was originally made for the Ford Territory where the plastic one would get holed. Not an issue for LR due to underbody protection.

Ah there's a few differences then. My pan was $425 and 2 hrs labour. I guess you really turned on the charm Richard:p...
I suppose they have had a bit more practice recently as i know there has been 3 other disco3's done since mine, not including yours Richard. They may be bulk ordering the pans to cut down on the transport costs.
Oh well is all good, at least there is one good source of gearbox servicing in Perth.
cheers

Many report that there's nothing on the filter pad when it's
replaced . Just changing the fluid through twice saves a heap
of trouble and a fair amount of money . Then there's the leaking
new parts possibility .............. it amuses me that whenever there
is a new bit to buy/fit/replace with , some just have to buy it .:lol2:

What is a Harness Plug Sleeve - sounds electrical?

I presume that it is something that is needed when the pan kit is installed or is it something that is needed independent of the kit and just whenever a transmission oil change is done.
