I have purchased a TPMS to suit both the D3 and camper trailer, had the sensors fitted on Saturday and I will fit up the receiver next weekend.

Yes Richard, i must agree with the wise ol owl;). More information would be appreciated, especially as i have been looking to get one myself {yes yet again we seem to have the same ideas on how to set up a four wheel drive :D}. It does sound like an internal set up, so have you changed tyres? Why not use the valve stem cap version? ???

The unit is an Inawise, link: TPMS benefits (http://www.inawise.com/tpms-inawisebenefits.html) model TPMS-201-6.

The transmitters are fitted into the tyres and batteries are good for around 250000 Kms so will do at least one set of tyres probably 2 and can be replaced at tyre change.
I have 8 transmitters, 5 for the D3 and 3 for the camper trailer, should a tyre go down then all I do is replace the receiver button to match the transmitter as fitted to the particular spare tyre, about 5 seconds (once I have found where I may have placed the receiver buttons:eek:)

$720.00 which included fitting the sensors to the 8 wheels but not the fitting up of the receiver unit which I will do myself

Just for comparison, I'm running a TyreDog 6 Wheel Tyre Pressure and Temperature monitor TPMS. It uses external sensors mounted to the valve stem (+ use a thieft prevention securing ring), so is a DIY installation. The six sensors allow me to monitor the D4 and the single axle caravan.
RRP is ~$700. New off ebay $420 delivered.

Had it for about 5 months now - no problems, and a great system.

That's good feedback on the TyreDog, Ducks - I was in at an ARB shop in Perth a week or two back and the head-honcho there said they'd stopped stocking this brand as so many had come back dead for some reason or other. That was some time ago (that they ceased carrying them) so maybe there's been some improvement / enhancements / quality control as time's gone by? I've looked at this one frequently, and wondered about it - so your experience is worth knowing of.

Jesse, I hadn't heard of TyreDog problems before, and if I had, that certainly would have made me very hesitant about purchasing one.
But my experience has been problem free to date. So I hope that continues!
I based my purchase on other uses personal experience & a 4x4 Australia magazine review.

No problems for me with the tyredog except for losing 2 sensors. Thieving !#$#'s. I run 6 sensors for the car and trailer.

I also run a 2 sensor system for the motorbike which has been great as well.

Great peace of mind with them on.

Sensor thieft appears to be common. I'd better reinstall the security rings, which I had removed to make pressure changes easier.

I used tyredog on the D3. Didn't use the lock rings as they were a pain when changing pressure.

Never had any stolen, but tore the end off two on rocks.

I wasn't that impressed with it. Eventually the receiver failed to read one sensor. Had the sensor checked and the receiver checked and the factory claimed nothing wrong. The ARB bloke couldn't get it to work either.

Cayenne has a factory setup similar to what you're installing Richard. Faultless!
I now prefer the internal sensors as they cannot be damaged when off road.

I'm like Jamo. The gravel roads killed the tyredogs. 2 sensors failed. I now have the internal sensors, soooooo much better and a colour display.
Down side is that you can't change them in the bush to another tyre when a tyre gets a puncture.

Any chance that a dob of silicone might hold the battery still to prevent movement in it clips?

Good idea. That should do the trick.
Best to use something like Windscreen silicon that doesn't give off corrosive fumes during curing (like plumbers silicon does).

I've just bought the Inawise 6 kit for car plus single axle trailer with two additional sensors - $495 supply only from Ian Diffen in Perth. I'm about to get 6 new D694 LTs on my 17" rims so will get the sensors fitted for "free" at the same time and will instal the receiving unit myself. Will post pictures when done.

Hi All. Sitting here having a real chuckle to myself, there must be a flood of these inawise tpms's coming across the big bore. Myself and 2 other guys at work have just ordered a set each of the 6 tyre system. Will be here monday and fitted by wednesday.

I have my Inawise 6 TPMS system up and running. I haven't permanently plumbed in the connection yet, but I've fixed the head unit, using double sided tape but not the stand provided, on the little ledge below the instrument binacle in front of the tacho. It doesn't obscure it at all from my (or my wife's) angle of view, can be seen through the steering wheel and fits in very neatly - the angle of the base of the unit is just about spot on for that location. Running the wiring is made potentially a little bit tricky as you can't unplug the power and antenna wires from the back of the unit, but I found I could run them down to the left of the steering column tucked behind the shroud that allows for the column adjustment without fouling anything.

I then removed the plastic cover above the pedals (just two phillips screws, and you have to unplug the connection to the footwell light) and pushed the power lead under the bottom edge of the centre console's plastic where it meets the carpet at the left of the footwell, so only the last few inches is exposed where it is brought up to the r/h power socket on the console. I then took off the plastic cover on the right of the footwell (you have to pop up the front edge of the plastic strip which secures the carpet alongside the driver's door and then ease the trim piece towards the rear of the car to slide the plastic clips out of the button connectors that fix the panel to the body, and also out of the felt strip along the bottom front edge of the door frame - it sounds tricky but is actually pretty easy as it's all flexible) and then ran one of the antenna wires down the right hand side of the car by pushing it under the plastic trim, which I eased up with a wide screwdriver blade, which secures the carpet across both side doors and behind the B pillar, and the last bit up under the edge of the plastic round the rear wheelarch, which was as far as it went.

I then switched it on and found after the requisite wait that all the wheels were being picked up - including my second spare which was about 10 metres away in the garage! - so no need to repeat the excercise of running the second antenna wire down the left hand side, which would have meant a lot more pulling apart of dash trim to feed the wire across, so I just loosely coiled the second wire and tucked it as far as I could over the transmission tunnel behind the dash before reassembling all the trim bits I'd removed. Took about half an hour all up.

If the location proves successful after a few week's use, then I'll hard-wire the connection so I don't have to use up a 12v dash socket full time.

I have been following this thread with some interest as I have been considering installing internal sensors when I purchase new 19” tyres.

The Inawise is not readily available over here so I seem to be favoring the Schrader AirAware 20257 hard wired kit as I like the design of the internal pressure sensor.

The display is no heck to look at but is small and I guess does the job. Orange makes a similar system with a very nice looking display but the internal pressure sensors are what I consider a less desirable design. Yes they are very similar to the factory OEM sensors with metal valve stems and what Inawise is using as well but with the stems being metal, there is no "give" in them.

The Schrader units have valve stems that look like normal rubber non TPMS valve stems and are now here pretty much OEM standard on GM, Ford, and Dodge pickups.

From what I can tell, the Schrader rubber valve set up fits all rims, and just sucks in like a normal rubber tyre valve; also there are no corrosion concerns related to dissimilar metals, cap, valve core or anything else such as O rings and the like.

Also over here, the metal stems have difficulty with the cold weather. The big fuss this year at the local LR/Jag Dealer was that the Jag stems were cracking due to “road hazard” and hence many annoyed new Jag owners as “so sorry, not covered”.

My primary concern with the Schrader, or any other system, is loss of signal. That is can the RF signal from the individual wheels make it for the most part, into the cab and be picked up by the receiver/display? That is I think the primary problem of any of the retro fit systems - signal strength, and hence why the LR factory system has antennas near each wheel. It seems that Inawise has solved that problem with their antenna extension wires – a good idea.

bbyer, that looks a very neat head unit, though probably a little bigger than the Inawise one - which would have the advantage of easy to use buttons, and the disadvantage of where the heck do you put it! Here in Western Australia I don't have to worry about the metal valve stem issues you have in cold climate/salted road conditions and indeed for outback use I am happy with the aluminium stems. Interestingly the Inawise unit seemed to be picking up ok when I first plugged it in to the dash with the antenna wires coiled in a ball sitting in a centre console cup holder, though as the batteries in the sender units age it may be that having the antenna run to the back of the car will become more important. I've just installed the Orange unit.
It was a breeze to fit, just had to get the tyre guys to take the rubber off the rim and I put the valves in myself, tighten them up and then screw the sensor onto them. Same as the innawise units by the looks.

Got the unit off ebay from an Aussie seller express posted, had it here in two days from purchase. amazing since i'm in rural W.A.

Seems to be working fine.

Gives you PSI of all tyres simultaneously and their Temps.
another push of the button will tell you what your current battery voltage is too, nice little added bonus.

You set custom alarms for hi or low pressures and hi temps.

it's a very nice looking display and doesn't have any issues with needing a big antenna attached.

The display has metal embedded inside the back of it I discovered from noticing that there is an optional extra of a suction cap mount with magnetic attachment. I happen to have a few strong little magnets laying around, so I Glued a couple inside the dash and stuck my display on magnetically!

at the moment it's just powered by the cable plugged into the Lighter Socket, but I will snip that off and wire it up to ACC power very soon.

The eBay seller that I purchased from's ID is shopdigital_pty_ltd - he has all items on the shelf here in Aus.

He has one that I almost got, it only reads out the pressure in kPa though, for only $170.50 including p/h.

I will be doing a big trip next week, possibly over a lot of rough off-road conditions, so we'll see how it handles it.

The display that you have looks really good. The magnet hint is a good one re mounting.

I appreciated the pictures, particularly the two showing the sensor mounted in the steel wheel.

I tend to prefer the idea of rubber valve stems per the Schrader set up, but since the display of the Schrader is liquid crystal, I expect it to be certainly more difficult to read than the Orange unit.

It is nice to have the four readouts at the same time whereas the Schrader unit only shows one tyre at a time, kind of like the other version of the Orange unit.

Also for me, I wear polarized sun glasses and liquid crystal readouts do not always show so display well due to the Polaroid effect.

Per the link below, it looks like a unit that Hopkins sells here in North America. I have no experience with the unit but thought I would include the link as there is a fair amount of detail about the unit. The one advertised on the link has the external sensors - probably quite OK for a trailer.

the picture i posted previously of the unit with the red display is from the TPMSaustralia.com.au website. It's one of theirs. And although they may also do one similar to the one in the Hopkins link, is nothing like the hopkins one. Sorry for any confusion if anybody thought it was my Orange unit. If you had a look at my pic of in-car in my previous post you can see mine is there just above the sticker about how to use the 4wd stick.

Just plain black with green numbers indicating tyre pressure for each tyre.
Above the green numbers is illuminated blue psi, and can be kPa, bar, C & F for temp.

It's a really nice little display. Very modern looking, and unobtrusive.
