Hi everyone, I am about to replace injector and engine harness on my 2001 Discovery TD5 to rectify oil ingress issue and have been warned by LR service people that disconnection of said wiring can result in loss of codes followed by tow truck trip to service centre for computer hookup to restart.

I've read as much as I could find on the problem and don't recall seeing this anywhere.

Anyone come across it before or is this simply scaremongering?

Thanks and regards,
Graeme

I beleive if you are replacing a injector you will need the computer codes changed. if it is just the harness there shouldn't be an issue. The injectors need there codes registered in the ECU this only needs to be redone if there is a change of injectors them selfs.

Just wash it out with contact cleaner every service or when it starts cross firing.

Changing the harness(es) will not affect the codes or restarting. That is nonsense.

Yes, total cobblers.

The ONLY time you need to address this issue is when fitting 1 or more new injectors, as the injector trim 'code' needs to be entered into the ECU for efficient running.

The engine will still run WITHOUT entering new 'codes', just not efficiently.

Sounds like you are talking about changing the injector loom. No need to worry, we did ours a few months back and all it took was basic tools - no need to mess with any computers. Whole job took 30 mins.

There's a reason that they are nicknamed 'stealers' - a bit of FUD is always good for their business..... what they are saying is bollocks.
