td5 traction control

hi ive judt got a td5 defender and have rebuilt the gearbox and took it for a run if i get one wheel in the air the traction control doesnt activate, how do i turn it on, ive heard something about pushing brake pedal so many times with key on but nothing seams to work.
its had the traction control/abs computer replaced about 4 months ago and lights come on with ignition and go out as soon as you move of, any help would be apreciated

The pushing of the brake pedal so many times is to deactivate TC. (I cant remember the combination/frequency to get this to work) It should be active as standard I believe.

The light coming on when you start the ignition is normal, as you say it dissapears when you move off.

TC will only work with quite a few revs - the lifted wheel needs to be spinning quite a bit for the sensor to pick it up and the brake the wheel - did you rev it up enough? TC is on when you start up - you do not have to turn it on.

tc wont kick in untill youve driven the vehicle at over 10/15kph. then it will activate all the way down till the engine stalls out.

I beg to differ Dave,

The 'ABS' brakes will not work until over a certain speed as indicated by the yellow indicator light on the dash that goes off (approx 8 kmh).

The traction control however, is active once the vehicle is started and it should take very little wheel spin to get it to operate. Operation is signified by the yellow indicator dash light flashing and the sound made by the ABS module under the bonnet. Just driving through a cross axel section, lifting a wheel, and giving the vehicle a slight rev should bring the traction control in quite sharpish.

My 1999 TD5 Extreme Traction Control works extremely well, even after all this time, so much so I have never felt the need for a diff lock. That may turn out differently now that is gone from ruts to mud in the high country now.

I don't think you are in disagreeance with Daveas you both seem to be saying that TC works quite well at low revs/slow speeds - something which I have also found to be the case.
