Ha Ha - was it supposed to be a comedy? She seemed to get quite hung up on the size for some reason. I can't imagine this is even close to the largest vehicle trabvelling around the States... Her comment about it being so tall was also funny, as when she was standing beside it, it was only as tall as she was. She was right about the fuel economy though - I would hate to run a petrol version around...

I'm going to check out a few more reviews on this site now - if they are all like that, there will be hours of entertainment to be had...:D

Pitty the Americans are so scared of Diesel's, as it would negate her major gripe about the fuel consumption.

I drive a fender, what can I say.

I'd got dizzy trying to keep up with those buttons and on screen display telling me what was happening.

Cheers,
Noting that they decided to use their own measurement for the gal - the US gal - meaning fuel consumption is not quite as bad as it sounds.

At first I thought that she was wearing Toyo underwear.....then she talked about the ride quality.....she is just an idiot....or has no understanding of how much it takes to make a 2.6 ton tank drive and ride so well.....

Then it got worse....loved the fact that she made the 'soccer mom' inferrance when she clearly wasn't interested in anything offroad that the car can do....

As I said....IDIOT!!!!!

Thanks bacicat2000, certainly gave me a laugh. :-)

So... a bloody great big Chevrolet Suburban weighs less, rides better and is more economical????

I think not.

Let's not even go anywhere near the fantastic brakes, quiet ride or the rest of the quality of fit etc compared to the US built try hards like Jeeps and Hummers.

The yanks wouldn't know a decent vehicle if they fell over it.

I opened this thread, read this line and this line only and spent the next however long waiting for her to get out of the car wearing nothing but underwear....and you thought she was an idiot........

Heated steering wheel one of the best features? I nearly stopped watching then and there.

Earlier this year when it was minus 18c here I was not happy that the original owner had not ticked the heated steering wheel and cabin preheater boxes on the options list.

The thing to bear in mind is that CNET is a computer/ digital camera/ mobile phone review website & I look at it when wanting a fair summary of an electronic device.
That explains the techo focus & lack of objective review.
Plus it was presented from a Primma Donna.

You have to wonder if CNET is not trying to be the next comedy channel.

Slack reports like that sure as hell doesn’t do much for the credibility for producing USEFUL legit info.

I drive a Defender, and I have a heated steering wheel also. When I park it, if it is in the sun, it gets hot! :D

I thought that the review was good and relevant to women who might be looking at a D4. There are lots of women in the USA driving around in X5s and MLs in the USA so a D4 review by a woman, mostly for other women to watch, makes perfect sense.

And since most of these vehicles are sold for suburb driving and highway cruising, there's simply very little chance that the majority of Land Rovers will ever find they way up the side of the Rockies or in Moab, Utah.

I just recently came back from the USA, and fuel prices there, whilst still about 40% cheaper than in Australia, is actually quite high for Americans. They are definitely feeling the pinch over there and you can see lots of advertisements on TV for their big thirsty SUVs because these are not selling well at all.

I will not pour scorn on the review or reviewer. There are many out there that have concerns that were getting addressed. The vehicle is big and heavy and requires the consequent amount of fuel to get it around.

Second row leg space appears to be a hangover from earlier LRs. Is that an english car thing or just LR?

Guys,

Not sure how this review really adds any value….from a woman’s or any other perspective. I’m still trying to figure out if that market is just too pampered or she has genuine distain for American soccer ‘moms’, is trying to be informative for them, or should just stick to reviewing cameras. :wasntme:

I work in Business Development for a large corporation and guidance is always given that you should write with a few basics in mind. This feedback is clear from all customer sources I’ve dealt with. The ‘Feature – Benefit – Proof’ principle should always be kept in mind. If you fail to keep things within context and don’t supply substantiation, then it’s nothing but useless words. There is a lot of that going on here.

She does make a few valid points, one being about the GPS…well documented fact that OEM systems are generally sub-standard....one point to her.

But even when she mentions that the D4 V8 uses a lot of fuel (which it does), without context you have to wonder what she is thinking. American’s don’t like diesel cars, so the majority of cars are petrol. So, what is she actually comparing the D4 to, with regards to her statement….or it just a wishy – washy, the car uses lots of fuel, save the world, statement? How does it compare to a petrol Landcruiser or an equivalent American SUV? Now I’m not saying a D4 is any better…I don’t know the facts, but a comparison statement would make her comment valuable.

Her other comments:

Unparkable box – Once again, compared to what? I had a small Volvo wagon as a loan car when the LR was getting serviced…it was hideous to try to park, as the visibility was so poor out the back and the side mirrors were the size of a fag packet. The D4 is large…that’s a given, it needs more space. However, I don’t imagine the car park sizes in the US are as frugal as they are in some car parks here. The D4 has great vision in all but out the back and rear sides, due to pillars and headrests….is that any different to any US SUV or X5 or ML? Have never parked either Euro jobs but they look like they would have the same issues. The D4 has huge side mirrors though! Also, I find that with the flat sides and back (so you know where they pretty much are) and the reverse sensors, it’s a breeze to park. So is she saying most ‘moms’ will need cameras to park a car this size. Or is she saying the size of any large SUV takes a bit of getting used to? I dunno, what does she actually mean?

Basic 6 speed – What does that throw away line mean? Is the ZF adaptive box basic, or she referring to the fact that compared to other boxes with their silly, weird gate patterns, that it’s easy to use? Once again, what could be a very useful point, is wasted.

No A La Carte Upgrades, only packages – Maybe that’s the case in the US, not here, as I have an SE with some extra bells and whistles…or is she just focussing on the obvious screen controlled upgrades, which are right up her self-anointed Tech Alley?

2nd and 3rd row seats are useless – As has been pointed out, she ain’t exactly small and did you notice the driver’s seat when she opened the back door….it was pushed all the way to the rear. I’ve had 6 footers in both the passenger and second row at the same time....no problem. I've also had 6 footers in the 3rd row, no issue at all. Not saying it's palacial, but it ain't too bad and far from useless. And as I keep saying ad nauseam…compared to what other vehicle? The Prados and Pajeros that I’ve seen are far squeezier in the back than a D4 and in the 3rd row you have no headroom and have your knees around your ears. A LC may have more room but it’s a bigger car….refer to her Unparkable Box comment….LOL!!!! :) What’s an X5 or ML like in the back? It reminds me of the rather overweight American gent at a car show complaining how hard the back seats were to deploy…..geez…..nuff-said!

Door Weight – Genuine concern for a soccer mum….but you’d want it there when you get T-boned….oh which reminds me…..she never once mentioned the safety and security features of the car…all good soccer mum considerations.

Controls too far away – That is just BS. I’m only 173cm and I can reach all controls without moving in my seat……she could reach the other door….LOL!!! So would a petite mom fair any better in another brand….if so, which one lady?

Rides like a boat on a choppy sea when it hits bumps – Compared to what other large SUV or should she have stated that all are prone to this and in fact that D4 is one of the more poised ones? Maybe the US has different suspension to Australia, as everybody seems to rave about the D4's ride here. It’s seems so contradictory, considering that large US cars are generally infamous for wallowing like whales.

Anyway….that’s my rant. Sorry guys I thought it was rubbish. She would have had a couple of good points if she kept them in context but other points were just crap. I think she was trying to venture outside her field of expertise and was in my opinion, failing.

Maybe I just didn’t like her….LOL!!!!

Did make me laugh thou…:D

Cheers,

Kev.

Of course she would say it is tall and narrow and has a choppy swaying ride, just compare the track and wheelbase of a D4 to that of Ford's F250, makes a D4 small compact

Can't imagine the F250 is much of a ride thou.....compared to the D4... :)

Love to see her park that!

But never driven one, so can't really say... :o
