As far I have been informed there is only one diesel fuel refined here in Queensland but I cant recall if it's BP or Caltex. The only fuel I notice a difference with is Freedoms B20 because it is 20% biodiesel and grumble seems to like it.As for anti-foaming when filling I have never filled my tank without foaming and sometimes the last 5-10 litres take ages if I want to fill the tank properly.I've heard the diesel manufacturing story in here but cant recall it. Many years ago Caltex advertised a product called CX-3 and it supposedly kept your combustion chamber clean and the valves looking like new. I'm just wondering why its not there now.

List of Australian refineries:
List of oil refineries - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_oil_refineries#Australia)
Chances are depending on your servo, the fuel could come from a number of sources. Over here in WA your hydrocarbon of choice is likely to come from BP or Singapore.
I know for certain that over here in WA that the BP Ultimate fuels are brewed to spec in their refinery while a number of other companies simply add additives at the distribution site.

Ultimate has its own australian standard, a dedicated fleet of trucks to move it and dedicated fuel tanks at the servos. So in theory you should get non contamimated fuel but its up to the servo people to keep it that way. The last car I used it on did perform better ad it used less fuel. The present D1 does not need it. Its on LPG 95%of the time.

Not long after getting my D2a I got that horrible pinging noise. Talked to a few people and changed to 98 octane, preferably BP Ultimate and the difference is very noticeable.
Cheers,
Peter.
