Hi folks
Bit of a problem, as this only happened tonight - thankfully at home!

1.8 manual
The car cranks but will not start.

Checked oil: looks like oil not a cappuccino
Checked coolant: looks like er, lime cordial, not oil contaminated
So: I am assuming not head gasket failure

When cranking I can smell fuel so I assume fuel is getting through.

It almost seems like the immobiliser is not going off as the motor won't even "catch". Drove fine all day today, stopped started a couple of times, no problem.

Only thing I have noticed is it's been a bit rough at idle on startup and was thinking I should clean the MAF or MAP - whatever a Freelander has :p
(spoken by a long time Disco owner ) Ran it low on fuel yesterday, but as I say been ok today so don't think crap in the fuel line should be an issue.

Supposed to be buying a spare FL1 (non runner tomorrow, but not sure if I want two that don't go!

Any ideas?
TIA
Cheers
Mike

Check fuel pump is operating

Checked fuel pressure

Check filter isn't blocked

Pull a plug out and see if it's wet from fuel

Check plugs are sparking by grounding it against the engine some where and crank it over.

Sell it, put money back into the D2 :p

Sent from my backyard TeePee using smoke signals.

Hi Andrew
Hmmm, not sure if I'd get enough for it to turn the Disco into a convincing cabriolet! :)

But thanks I'll check those things...I kind of wondered if there was a generic starting thing with Freelanders and folks would go "Aaaah...it's the blahblahblah" - you know the way we have long, deep & meaningful discussions about the 3 Amigos. Lol!

Cheers

See if its got spark from the coil and out of the distributor. K1.8 eat rotor buttons

Right!
Well went out this morning and it started first turn of the key - no questions and each time I've tried randomly starting since then.

So I'm curious...there are apochryphal stories of D2s not starting outside shops where certain RF equipment is in use. It allegedley interferes with the immobilser signals - could this be the issue? Maybe something in the house?

Otherwise I'm going to be stressing about a completely unpredictable, unknown electrical gremlin...

My td4 fl2 wouldn't start properly sometimes if parked at the local garage in a particular spot. I would stop on the way to work for munchies in the same spot more or less and the issue would sometimes occur. It has never happened anywhere else. I put it down to some sort of electrical interference with my totally sophisticated machine.

The switch block on the back of the ignition key mechanism can be a bit dicky. I had a similar intermittent issue (stall/not start) for a while then one day the switch basically dies. Believe this is not uncommon.

Aaah, interesting as there's ben no problem over the last few days...
