I’d go the new generation ARB Summit Bar.

I’d go the new generation ARB Summit Bar.

Supposedly the new ARB Summit Bars are not compatible with early D4s, only the facelift onwards.

135918Would be very interesting to know just why they are not compatible
I did not think jlra would change something so close to a model phase out

They didn’t. But ARB hasn’t retrospectively checked so they say it’s for the ones they have..

Has anyone fit a Bash plate or Front guard such as APT's with the OEM/Factory Alloy Bullbar, or have any idea if it can be made to fit?

Hey Tombie, is this statement fact?

Its relevant to me because I have a 2011 D4 with a 2016 front end (lights and grill) so I’m looking at the ARB bumper now

do I buy a pre-facelift bullbar which will obviously fit my 2011, but will it not line up correctly for the new grill or lights? Ie what is the physical difference in the two models

or if what you said is correct above I assume I can safely buy a post facelift bar and it will still fit my car?

dont want to buy the wrong one

Tombie is no longer here, I don't think there is any difference to late and early apart from front parking sensors and cameras.
The mountings and other areas are essentially the same.

Yes it can be done and looks good. Ben from APT bent a bash plate to fit the OEM Alloy bulllbar for a mate of mine. The bullbar was painted black prior to installation by LR. https://www.aulro.com/mobile-gallery/74336246f8db1c37922fcf5335bdc85b.jpg

Now that is handy to know. Will give Ben a call and see how much delivered to Adelaide. Fixes the problem of trying to get the plastic shield off to access the recovery point

Spoke to Ben today, he said it wasn't one of his front guards, he said from memory it was an OEM LR Front guard, that he had to modify (bend) to fit with the OEM LR Bullbar.

Never heard of the OEM LR Front Guard - the one pictured does look different though different cut outs.

Tankmat - Any chance you can you find out more from your mate?

Cheers

Just confirmed, it is the OEM LR front guard (non winch version) bent by Ben from APT to fit the OEM LR alloy bullbar. MY16 specs D4 2016 build.https://www.aulro.com/mobile-gallery/7cb16f6ba099811115f7bb47dc6d002e.jpg

The OEM LR front bash plate Part No. VPLAP0189 is from the MY16 D4 catalogue. Might want to check it fits earlier spec D4s as I believe the front bumper area changed slightly on late spec D4s.

Yey!!! The Apt Front guard does fit with the OEM Bullbar, I left the car mechanics, he has managed to make it fit with an extra spacer. I will post pics when I get the car back....Very excited!

Mechanics did a **** job weren't able to fit all my apt guards compressor, air tank covers and then charged $380 dollars for trying. Very disappointed they used spacera which reduced ground clearance because they used the wrong length bolts.

I was in at ARB yesterday getting my Safari Snorkel fitted and asked about fitting the Summit bar.
In line with previous comments, the young bloke advised it won’t fit my 2013 model.
Has anyone with a 2013 and prior Discovery 4 successfully fitted a Summit bar to their vehicle?
Im very aware of ARBs’ lack of model specific information/cross referencing for Land Rovers.
Thanks for any info.

I don’t believe these guys have any idea other than the catalogue says no so so do they.

Legally ARB cannot fit the Summit (Facelift D4 MY14 onwards) bar to a pre-facelift D4 as it will not have the ADR/crash compliant sticker/number.

The same reason a Deluxe (Pre-facelift) cannot be legally fitted to a facelift D4.

Will it actually fit, probably, the only issues maybe to do with clearance between the bar and the grill/headlights.

Valid point. They will have not backward certified it for the 2010-2013 model (sadly) and ADR certification requires the specific model and year’s applicable listed

All, I received an email from, LRA, with internal communication copied:

Dear Colleagues
We are delighted to announce that the Land Rover Discovery 4 Bull Bar project is progressing well towards release for retail sale.
The final crash testing occurred last week in the UK, and whilst the results of the test data analysis are pending, all signs and initial feedback are positive. As such we anticipate final sign off from the UK Engineering team within several weeks. In order to prepare for production we now need to lock in initial pre-order quantities from
the dealer network. As the manufacture is limited to 42 bars per week, initial orders will be on an allocation basis. There will be two versions of the bar, one with forward park assist fittings and one Without.

Features:
• The bull bar has been designed to integrate into the vehicle styling better than
aftermarket alternatives.
• It has been developed to be fully compatible with Discovery 4 airbag system and
has been fully crash tested.
• Designed to operate with Land Rover factory options like front PDC and Surround
Camera System.
• Constructed of polished aluminium and high quality plastics that are built to original
equipment manufacturer specifications. Winch capability will be available at a later
point.
• The intention however is to have it integrate with the already available accessory
winch installation.

Interesting!!!

Price?

$2500 +GST

G’day Chris, does this mean you’ve joined me in swapping the L322 for a D4?

Fascinating. This seems to mean that if I can source the OE hidden winch kit from JRA that will be a perfect fit behind my OE bar????

I think that was a long time ago Greg!! I’ve got a L405 SDV8 Vogue that I actually bought in Perth last year - it spent two weeks at Autospark getting a complete upgrade for Outback travel and it’s been brilliant so far, cheers CM

Silly me Chris, I was looking at the start of the thread instead of the end:-) Just a tad envious of your Vogue (I still miss my L322) but couldn't really be happier with the D4 now that it's reasonably well kitted out for touring. Heading for the Munja Track in a couple of months.
How does your L405 compare with the L322 - day versus night I expect?

Hi Greg

We must catch up when over your way next - we have opened a Clinic there at Rockingham (Qscan radiology) and opening a 2nd soon. I will give you a buzz when i knwo next trip details.

The L405 is noticeably quieter than the L322, and yes it handles and rides a lot better too. I regret not going for a 2016MY (I have MY17) with the 105l tank and no Adblu. I seem to be using a lot of Adblu (in its 20l tank). Otherwise, very happy!

Will add 20's with 275/55/20 BFG's soon; and Devon 4x4 sell a good set of bash plates by Rival for around 500quid.

A trip to Roo Systems for an exhaust / ECU upgrade (a la my L322) is tempting.......but I cant really justify the expense.

cheers

That is the factory optioned alloy bar that's been painted black, not sure if it was an Australia only option or available elsewhere.
