I searched for any comments about the BFG A/T 265x65 x 18's being fitted on either a d3 or 4 and couldn't find anything. So before I decide what A/T tyre and size I will purchase I thought I'd ask the question.

So has anyone fitted this brand and size tyres to their D3/4's? Or another brand but the same size?

cheers,
Terry

Yes. Had them on the D3. (thinking about putting them on the D4 now)
Front tyres rubbed a little bit on full lock. Rears rubbed a bit over speed hups and similar.
They work well as AT tyres and hang on ok in the wet.

I should add, you have to deflate the spare quite a bit to fit it in the standard location.

Terry, had them on a Range Rover years ago. Was towing a trailer in the rain when I had to brake hard coming up to an intersection. Slid straight through like I was on ball bearings.
This was my last and only ever experience with this tyre.

Craig re your BFG ATs on your old Rangey, you probably just got it back from service and they returned the car to you with the tyres pumped up to 50 psi.. happened to me once and seems to be normal practice , very scary. When I got back home reduced the pressure and all was good then.. better ride and much more grip.. Never thought that I was lacking grip with those tyres when they were at the correct pressure.

Hi Jools,
Pretty sure the tyres were the right pressure. Just found them not too good in the wet and also mud.
If you look at the tread pattern, it is not very water friendly, as in there are no real channels to get the water out quickly compared to alot of AT tyres.

Hi Terry,
The BFG A/Ts in 265/65-18 gives identical tread width and radius to my 265/70/17 .

I haven't found any rubbing at the front, but SLIGHT rubbing by the rear tyres under high articulation (with coil springs before I fitted the King coils).

I don't remember your MY, but in the later models a seam projected slightly further into the rear wheel arch (which could be dealt with).

I would say "Go for them".

Best Wishes,
Peter

Thanks everyone for responding,

I have 285/75/16 BFG A/T's (33's) on my D1 and for what they are with such a big side wall they work pretty well on the road, for me anyway.

I'm really trying to suss how they work on 18's and if they rub or do anything strange on a D3. Sounds like they work well on 17's which is good to hear.

By the way mine is a 05 HSE model which has rear airconditioning, if that makes any difference?

This size seems to be a bit of an odd ball size.

I'm basically tosiing up between the Silent armour's and these. The tyre size for the Good Years is safe because it is smaller and it sounds like they work well but I'm guessing this size BFG will possibly be a better off road tyre if for nothing else just because of the extra size.

That is why I'm asking for personal experience of these tyres on this model Disco.

cheers,
Terry

I am also looking at this size in the BFG AT for my 2.7 D4, although in my early and limited searches online, I haven't found an Australian supplier. Getting close to phoning up some tyre places to confirm if they are an option.

I like the size, a bit taller, but not as tall as the 275/65 which seems to have more tyre options.

I have had both the BFG AT and MT on my D2 and had good experience with both, so keen to stick with BFG.

Cheers

ARB sell them although they are not listed on BFG's website.

Bob Jane also sell them but the salesperson will have to actually enquire!

They are very expensive in Australia ($475 best price I could get) however they are a lot more reasonable from Tirerack even including freight.

Another advantage of these tyres is that they are a true LT construction.

There is a D3 HSE I go past in Coburg that has these tyres on.

Whilst I have never had these tyres every one I know raves about them as an AT.

I am thinking about buying them and getting rid of second set of 17's.
