I want to install a switch (auxillary battery starting switch) and LED (EAS compressor is running LED) into the console switch pack surround next to the headlight switch on a 2000 HSE 4.6.

I cannot for the life of me, get the radio out to get at the last two screws for the console switch pack. I have inserted 'radio removal keys' into the small holes that you use to remove the radio, but they are not LR ones, and although they fit, I do no believe that they are going in far enough.

Any tips and tricks for removing this? I also have the side covers off and all the other panels from the oring fix and blend motors, so I can see the radio from the sides and underneath?

Thanks!

Sorted!!

I modified the "keys" to be thinner at the point that they stopped going deep enough and this worked fine. They look like they have to go in about 6 cm and almost anything should push the tabs down and allow it to slide straight out.

Ahhhh! the warm glow felt from successfully enticing the P38 to yield up yet more secrets is addictive...so BEWARE!!:p:D ...and thank you for the handy hint re. dimensions of the tab keys!:BigThumb:

this is for my D2a TD5 but probably relevant, It has a radio set, branded Land Rover with a single CD, I think its the mid line installation.

I was pulling the whole central plastic surround this after noon to get to the bottom of stopping a rattle.

To get the radio out, I tried the pins / keys and they mostly worked but it was stuck in place due to the thickness of the fleece / fur of the metal cage.

I had a real PITA to get it out and when I finally did there is a fair amount of fleecy / fur around the metal frame that the radio its self slides in to.

when I got around to putting it back in, I removed about half the thickness of the fur and it slides a whole lot easier now.
