Hi Fishos.
I have been throwing out all my rubbish fishing tackle and only going with better quality gear.
I was really sick of ganged hooks letting me down when I got a good bite.
I got some quality hooks and rolling swivels and spent the afternoon in the shed making gang hooks.Got several years worth made,HEAPS cheaper than buying from tackle shops.

The swivels really help prevent eye failure on the hooks and make threading the hooks into the bait so much easier.

Right with you Andy.

Got sick of the "designed for ganging" open eye hooks failing when you least want them to.

I ended up going with the Mustad 7766's in 5/0 size for pillies and opening the eye with a set of pliers, ganging the hooks then closing the eye with said set of pliers.

I'm yet to lose a fish with these gangs due to hook failure, and also use 10/0's for trolling bonnies and tailor for macks.

I use a centre punch to open them, shares the load around the eye(use something SOFT under the punch,Im told a coin works well;););)).Close with pliers.
Using rolling swivels you dont need to open the eye much. The 5/0 gangs in the pic are Mustad 7766.
Actuall did more yesterday, small no3 gangs for Herring/Skippy etc.
Had to order more swivels for the bulk ordered hooks.Every tackle shop should have a bloke with a peg leg and a parrot inviting customers to empty their wallets;););););)

Not a huge fan of gang hooks, I like to use a free running hook hook and place through the head of the pillie will a 1/2 hitch to keep it there. Also use a simular rig with single wire for things like spanish macs
cheers
