Gotta be a Fruit Loop to drive a Defender!

After 10hrs work, dead tired and a two hr drive home in extreme traffic conditions, The no1 Landy decides to give me grief, after travelling for a while in stop start conditions, I notice the clutch pedal going weird, very spongey, wanting to take off when just off the flloor,relised it was master cyl out of fluid, ( another leak), Pulled up checked it out, Yep master cyl empty, luckily i had a bottle of fluid behind seat, so all was good again in 5mins, Another Ten ks and stuff me a bad coolant smell was very evident!!, pulled over and lifted the bonnet and coolant all over the place, the heater hose off the head had split right at the clamp at the head end, Had rotted out with all the oil over it. Cut the end off the hose re clamped, grabbed a bit of water from a tap in someones front yard and off again. All was good for the next 1/2 Hr, when Bugger me!! the lights started to go Dim., The indicaters stopped working, and the motor felt it was going to die, Next min right at a set of lights in the middle lane She Dies:mad:, Cars honking, everyone going bilistic.Get out of the road". Bloody hell Whats happened now?, With the help of a little chinese guy we pushed it across the road into a bus zone at least it was out of the roadfor a little while,turning the key the thing would only click & clack. so was thinking battery has carked it. but then why didn't it keep going off the alternater,After peering around with a torch at the alternater i spotted this wire hanging down, damn thing had somehow dropped off the spade terminal somehow,Put it back on then luckily i was on a bit of slope so pushed her out into the outside lane and clutch started it, away we went again. I really needed all that on a friday arvo, what other vehicle would do that other than a bloody landrover!!!!,So why do we keep comming back for more?, Gotta be Nuts.

had a similar incedent today with the fozz, whose been without clutchhyrdaulics for about 4 weeks now, on the run to MR automotive to get some more bits for the SWMBOS D1.

Got abused by an impatient yota driver because I wasnt running up to the lights at full speed then hitting the brakes. After offering him my opinion of his heratige and advising him not to be a rooster sack I explained I was driving without a clutch and needed to time the lights. He pointed out to me that I was a smart ass who was now up the brown creek without a propulsive method because I was on a hill and the engine was running I just smiled. low Idle quick snap into low then into high and alls good.

Next set of lights he informed me that that cant be done.

"You cant do it, I'm not driving a yota."

Hey Sumo does your post make me feel sooo much better.:) Good to hear that it`s not just my mule that`testing the limits of man`s bond with his landy. Hmm bit like first mothers group or A A where you discover that you are not alone with the problems. Could be a new thread that posters start with my name is ---- and I drive a ---- then let of steam by unburdening there woes on others. Any way Sumo it could have been worse. Took a week and several hundred dollars to just get mine home. Then when Iv`e got those problems in remission some thing else has gone awry. Don`t know what it is though, these land rovers do attach them selves to you.

Yes they test you but how many other vehicles put such a smile on your face and make you love them as much as you hate them at times?

Some one mentioned it on hear a very long time ago, might have been you Blknight, that we land rover owners will discuss all our problems with each other and pass on the best way to fix them, we share. Other brand owners are too scared to talk about their issues because it make them and their truck look inferior (we already know they are) and you'll never hear how bad they really can be.

I had a wobble from my front right the other week, pulled up at the mother in laws and tweaked the bearing. All good, but had an ear full from her Maverick driving boy-friend. My Maverick never this and that. Blah Blah Blah... Mother in law walks up after he left and says how much of a pain in the _____ that piece of ____ is and how much it is always knackered.

So True Mate, They are a high matainance thing, if you slack off they just let you know,..... You can usually blame yourself for about half the probs, the other half is just the landrover thing:mad:

I had a 200TDI defender ute, it got flogged as a farm ute but the only thing I ever replaced was the timing belt and tyres. but it was always maintained.Regular maintenance is the key.
