Butler lights ?

I picked up this stuff at a swap meet recently . No evidence of green paint, looks to be painted black from new . The seller said he had two complete examples, but pulled one to bits for the main shell, to use on something else! So I bought 1 and half lights....pity, he made useless a complete original light instead of buying a cheap spotlight .

Do they have the bulb fitting? According to Anthony Pearson in Adelaide, the Butler headlamps for tractors are almost identical to those for Land Rover, although many tractor ones only have a single filament bulb fitting.

Nice find in any case as the lenses are quite difficult to acquire and finding an intact housing a bonus.

The problem is that for sale and wanted ads are not permitted in forum areas.

An ad can be placed in the classified "markets" section and a link to that ad in the marketplace alerts.

The lights off a Masey Fergusson tractor are almost identical and will set you back around $40 for a pair. As opposed to a many hundreds of dollars for the real deal.

I think the modern ones have a different profile on the rim . If you look at a original, the rim has a rather flat profile looking from the side, whereas the modern ones are more rounded . Also, the new one's don't have the flat fluted glass ,instead it's a convex glass .

BTW the original 80" butler lights were a left over from WW2 vehicles . Most British WW2 trucks , after 1943, were fitted with those same 5" Butler headlights , but with blackout covers fitted. You often see them marked B-WD , which means Butler - War Dept.

If that is the case, I take it that 7 out of these, which have double contacts qualify as " Landrover lamps". Objections any one?
