Hi all, the enginesaver arrived today and am keen to get it in..the instructions are great but the recommendation are to fuse into a supply that switches on and off with the ignition.....does anybody have a simply wiring diagram for me to follow? I've work out the other bits and would certainly appreciate knowing the best way of setting this up.

As Dazza said, cig lighter is fine. I run mine off the wiring I put in for the air compressor.

All you need is a wire with a live feed, live when the ignition is turned on.
The black earth just goes to an existing earth point - bolt somewhere on the body, usually there will be a bolt in the engine bay with a few other wires coming off, just use one of those.

Cig lighter is pretty easy to access though. Just connect to the live wire on the back of the lighter holder.

I spliced into the constant supply (when the ignition is on) to the cruise switch.
It's easy to get at...simply pull the switch straight forward from the binnicle, use a probe to identify the power wire and spilce the green wire in. I used a standard inline fuse holder, and placed it and the buzzer under the steering wheel behind the drop panel. This is also a good point to find a good earth. The LED can go into the binnicle blank under the cruise switch, or, I have placed into the blank beside the mirror control.

I simply fitted a lug and pressed it onto the spare flat connector on the bottom right of the fuse box, near your right knee. This powers up with the ignition.

Which one? Is there a ref number for the fuse slot?
I may like to change mine away from the air-comp switch at some point.

I think the key criteria are ;

*Fused
*NOT a direct connection to the battery (always live)
*Powered whenever the engine is running

Hang it off the + side of the lighter socket. If you use scotch locks, make sure you use one that is an appropriate size for the cig lighter wiring. - I accidentally went one size too big. The engine saver tested fine but after a few weeks it stopped giving the beep on power up (was no longer receiving power) . Took a while for the penny to drop and even longer to find the intermittent wiring fault.

Can't afford to have unreliable wiring on a piece of engine protection equipment.

Essential piece of kit IMHO

Pete

Thanks to all.....if I connect to the fuse box next to my knee do I need to include a 1amp inline fuse?

When I first added the enginesaver, I checked to make sure this connector was fuse protected, but I can't remember which one. Stupid memory:mad:

Yep. That's the easiest way.

For the rest of you ... ;)

Get your multimeter (set it to volts dc) or 12v test light. Attach one end/lead to one of the spare spade pins in the fusebox location mentioned, and earth the other one to a bolt around the steering column area. Turn the key to AUX and see if you get a circuit/light. If not, try another pin. When you have a result ...

Make up a flying lead/wire with a female crimplug one end, attached to an inline fuse holder (1A fuse), which attaches to the enginesaver supply/+ wire. Neatly bundle up the enginesaver with the excess cable, and strap it to the large wiring loom under the steering column with a large cable tie.

Job's done

Do you really want power on to the saver in the AUX position? On with the ignition seems appropriate, at least to me. This is why I took power from a circuit that only has power when in the ignition on position. In the AUx position the thing is powered up when you've left the key in the ignition while away fishing.
And yes you should put an inline fuse of the required size regardless of where you take power from. If the power supply is fused at 15amps, and the unit should be fused at 2 amps, it won't be protected.
Ultimately your choice...

Thanks to all that took the time to answer my questions on the fuse, which I thought would be included in the kit if it was a integral part of the set up. I've just spent a lot on a new motor and don't think an extra $190 is too much to pay for a little insurance and hope the manufactures spend a little of that money on improving their website....I would have bought the TM2 had it been better positioned.

Dave is a supporter and member of the forum so there is a pretty good possibility he will come across your comments :)

Suggest you also send him an email direct with your constructive criticism and I am pretty sure it will be happily received since feedback is the only way the product or website can really be improved.

I have no connection to EngineSaver apart from being a very satisfied customer.

Thanks I will - if I knew how - cause I'd also apologies - as what i meant to say is that after spending a small fortune on a new motor $190 is NOT to much to pay for a little added insurance..(iPad with fat fingers and just starter to wear glasses excuse) and would like to have bought the TM2.....etc.....sorry Mr Dave.
