They're a great idea, I've been wanting to do one for my 90 for a while now. There are several attachment point variations, but all ultimately attach to the chassis (and firewall).
Safety Devices roll cage catalogs show schematics - link below.

In reality a full external cage is not a huge amount of use. Triangulation and diagnols are your freinds here.
Protection and Performace are probably one of the best of the shelf cage manufacturers. (UK based)
I have one of their cages, modified by me to my needs.
Inside the front wing skins is a rectangular Steel tube that mounts to the top of the main outriggers with a bracket that bolts to the outrigger with the bolt that holds the firewall on. (Sorry I don't have any pictures of this) Some cages also tie into the bolt holes that hold the wing skin on. (PPC will sell their version seperately to the cage if required)

AAHHH, thanks now time for thinking.
The more I think about it the more I want to include
Rollover protection
Cargo barrier ( behind rear seat)
Roof rack
Support for the 3 solar panels over the cab, ( surprisingly heavy)
Possible roof top aircon
Sort of wrapping it all into one unit. and striping out our setup and starting again
