Hi All.
Just fitted my electric seats and the dealer is telling me that the test book/ T4 system can not turn on the seats as the vehicle was never configured for electric seats. They could not understand that I needed them to configure it. I am sure this can be done in 4 seconds with a nanocom and I need to drive from Port to the Cold Coast on Monday, the problem is my wife cant reach the pedals at the moment.
Any urgent help is appreciated.
Cheers
Matt

Hi Matt,
I can try if / when you get up here, but that may not be much help! I am about 50k south of Bne.
Also I would need it to work with just the nanocom, not the laptop interface, as my old laptop has broken and my work one doesn't have a serial port.
Will PM you my mobile number
Rgds

Dealer is talking out their arse!
Thats what I recon, and charged me $70 for the pleasure. :(
I was spewing I didn't have your number at the time.
Thanks for the offer Pete. I am going to stop and see MJK discovery in Belengin. Murray has an Auto logic, I think that will work but if it doesn't I'll give you a buzz.
is there a way to "hotwire" the seats? I need to tilt the back on passenger seat and I need to be able to move the drivers forward.
Cheers

I am trying to work out how to activate the seat motors to "manually" move them with 12v from the lighter socket. can anyone tell me what colour wire does what?
Cheers

Firstly, I am not a vehicle electrician!! The following may be totally wrong!!!
Normally in my line of work, the negative is eithe blue or black. If there's one positive, it could be any colour but the international standard is red.
I'm completely guessing here, but I'd expect one neutral & several lives of different colours for the different motors & directions. For e.g. a blue or black neutral. Then let's say a White for seat reverse, yellow for seat forward, purple for seat up, pink for seat down, grey for back down, and orange for back up. But I'd have thought that these would be wired between the switches & motors, with just a single live & neutral between the battery & the seat (and earth to wherever).
If I'm right, and if you can see which colour wire connects to which switch, you can probably touch a 12V live to the wire or switch connection concerned to activate the desired movement.
Remember that's all theoretical - I've never had a need to figure out seat wiring. However it may help & I hope it does.

Hi All
I have located the earth being Black. handy. I have used a second battery and put the earth on the back of the plug then tried the other wires. turns out it gave me a spark I though fare enough but then my wire started to Glow:eek:
any other tip on how to bypass the system to get the seats to move?
Cheers

Sounds like it's possible you're putting too much current through the cable. Good job you've desisted! Definitely wait to get better advice from someone who knows what they're talking about! :wasntme:

I am thinking that I will try a 15 amp fuse in line tomorrow with a feed directly to the motor under the seat. I will also disconnect the big grey plug under there first.
any other Ideas?

I googled Discovery seat wiring & found this link: Free Download Wiring Diagram: 2002 Land Rover Defender Electrical Circuit Diagrams.pdf OnlineFreeEbooks the most imitated free ebooks site (http://www.onlinefreeebooks.net/autos/car/2002-land-rover-defender-electrical-circuit-diagrams-pdf.html)
I haven't looked at it, & it says it's for a Defender but I presume they'd be at least similar?
And these links too:
http://www.landroverresource.com/ from this thread:

Good luck! And be very, very careful. 12V systems are plenty powerful enough to electrocute you, and DC is far more likely to do so than AC.
For the record, I have a limited electrical licence in the state of QLD. I'm not a fully licensed electrician & anyone considering using the information I've provided should consider getting the services of a properly licensed electrician.

See if this helps from RAVE:
DISCOVERY 4.45
Seat Adjustment Operation
With the ignition switch in position I or II or the driver’s door open, the BCU
provides an earth path for the coils of the LH and RH power seat relays,
energising the relays and closing the contacts..DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
The feeds from fusible links 1 and 7 pass through the relay contacts and
connect on WN wires to the LH and RH satellite fuse blocks. The feed passes
through fuse 2 in each satellite fuse block and is connected to the LH and RH
seat switch packs on WR wires.
Each of the four seat motors are connected to the LH or RH seat switch pack
by two wires. The operation of the switches can supply the feed from fuse 2
into either of the wires to operate the motors in either direction. The wire
connections to each motor from the LH or RH switch pack is as follows:
• The LH and RH rear up/down seat motors are connected on U and NY
wires respectively.
• The LH and RH seat motor forward/rearward motors are connected on R
and GY wires respectively.
• The LH and RH front up/down seat motors are connected on Y and W wires
respectively.
• The LH and RH back recline forward/rearward seat motors are connected
on O and S wires respectively.
For wire colour legend see RAVE.
If you don't have a copy get one.
All the electrical schematics are in there too.
Good luck.

GOT IT.
I just put power from the Lighter direct onto the motor under the seat. I couldn't get the seat back to lie back at all on the passenger side. I rigged up a switch with a fuse and I just change the plugs around to get it to go the other way.
Cheers

Glad you sussed it Matt. :)
Thanks for the comment on my disclaimer. Seems a pity we need to be so careful to CYA these days, but there you go.
So, did you get a Nanacom on it & is it now programmed correctly?
